The Amazing Spider-Man 2 What Did You Not Like?(Spoilers!!!)

I don't agree with any of those other then the movie started off slow witch goes with number 1.

Here's one thing:

Dr. Kafka is a dude...played by Marton Csokas.

The dislike of product placement is a complete and utter mystery to me.
I never ever notice it (and short of someone breaking the 4th wall to tell me about a product) I never will.

I understand, it just takes me out of it a little bit. At times just kinda puts my head in the wrong place, which distracts me from what's happening. Like when Peter discovers his fathers video, an emotional scene, they pull back the camera slightly over peters shoulder specifically to reveal the sony monitor. TWICE lol. And the continuity of it all bugs me. Literally everything is Sony lol. It not as "pure" as it could be.

It's a nitpick, but I gotta think of stuff I dislike for this thread!

OH I just thought of my other dislike. They dated the film in 2014 with Normans death. I just don't like when films date themselves. That's a real nitpick aswell I know haha.

I only dislike it in instances like the Fantasticar in Rise of Silver Surfer.

Why would your ****ing Fantasticar have a Hemi engine?

I do find it funny that after Spidey saves Max from getting hit by the taxi they show a shot of the taxi still sliding on it's roof when presumably there were people in there that also needed a little help.

Leprechaun Harry
Max Dillon's impersonation of Edward Nygma/Gus Gorman
Everything with Paul Giamatti
The spectacular spider-kid
The musical themes
The entire film being a trailer for upcoming Spidey projects

Pretty much everything other than the Peter/Gwen dynamic, Spidey (in general) and the visuals.

  • Very disappointed in Electro, a character that I've wanted to see in live action for some time. Hammy, silly reason for villainy and no depth. Acquiring his powers actually fixed the gap in his teeth. Are there new developments in dentistry I don't know about?
  • Jarring editing.
  • Musical accompaniment that just seems out of place at times.
  • The fast forward button being pressed on the Goblin angle.
  • Why even bother with Felicia? No development. No hinting at anything further. She wouldn't have meant anything at all to anyone if we didn't know who she was.
  • Kafka. Ugh.
  • Harry really walked up into Oscorp and got the drop on two security personnel like that? Exactly what are they teaching at that boarding school? :funny:
  • Rhino is kinda a clod, even for Rhino.
  • The film can't seem to make up it's mind on if it wants to be cheery, inspiring, mature or corny. It's not an issue in and of itself to juggle these aspects, but the way it was done here left me cold.

I'm sure there's more. Surprisingly, I don't hate the entire work. Maybe some of this stuff will grow on me. ...nah.

-Giamatti's acting
-Kafka
-How it overlooked Peter's mother and just paid attention to his father. I can kinda understand it for the opening, but when Aunt May and him are talking I found it so strange how they kept talking about his father and ignoring her.

Those are the three that stand out the most to me, though I'll probably have more on repeat viewings.

Nope, and basically the pressure is exerted on a wider surface area with a fist than with a bullet or knife, so the energy is spread out more. It's the same reason why walking on ice with tennis rackets on your feet is less likely to break the ice than simply your feet - the same pressure is being exerted on a larger surface area.

I read this entire discussion and you're absolutely right. Perfect example of people who understand science vs. people who don't. While I agree that his strength seems to vary during the movie and lacks a little consistency, it's not as bad as some people think, when you understand physics.

As for the glass, armored glass it's stronger than people seem to give it credit for. On the standard US military vehicles in the field the glass is up to 3" thick, depending on the vehicle. REALLY doubt he'd be able to get through that with just punches within a full day.

I'm not saying the glass in THIS truck in the movie was the same glass I have seen. However, it's not standard glass either. Bulletproof glass in general typically ranges from 3/4" to 3.5". I'm guessing this was closer to the 1" to 1.5" range, making two punches still VERY impressive, even for a super hero.

I needed to see an mcu easter egg and the lack thereof really bothered me.

I needed to see a DCCU Easter egg. The movie would've been a 10/10 if they made a reference to sone other non-spiderman character or event.

The music
The scene between Harry and Peter at the harbor.
The pacing

Yes. This bugged me to. He was all about saving people, yet not the couple of cabs that got destroyed right in front of him. Does he hate cabbies?

Why would expect an MCU Easter egg? They've been very clear about the fact that the universes are separate.

Not really. What have they done to make it so clear? Never forget the fact that there were talks about having Oscorp in Avengers. As a matter of fact, even though it didn't appear the fact that they even talked about it could make me believe that it was still there somewhere.

Also, don't forget about all the cranes in asm1 without a proper explanation as to why there were so many of them in the first place.

Lastly, just because they don't add mcu easter eggs does not mean I am okay with it. I'll say this forever more, as far as I am concerned as a fan, seeing the asm series connected to the mcu is the most important thing to establish/see happen.

Shouldn't the most important thing be quality?

And maybe it's just me but I really hope this never gets tied to the MCU.

The series does have quality in my opinion maybe not the best but it is there. And I'm just stating MY opinion, in that the most important thing about these films is to see it connected to the mcu.

and trust me it is not just you. And I do not understand that rationale. I'm not talking about Spidey joining the avengers by any means, I'm talking about seeing some sort of indiciation that they are all operating in the same universe. That is at least a start.

Max Dillon's/Electro's screen time. There should have been a scene with Peter and Max somewhere in the movie. I think it's important to build up that relationship between the two. Especially if he's gonna be the main villain.

Harry turning into the Goblin this early. Should have saved him for the third movie.

The pace of the movie never really flows at all. It's all over the place at times. Honestly the first Spider-Man movie that really bored me.

Gwens fate. I think this was rushed. I would have saved it for the third movie. Build up that relationship between Peter/Gwen/Harry. No love triangle. Just friendship between them all. I felt nothing during her death.

These are some of my main problems with the film.

Oh my god I second this so much. I thought I was the only one who NEVER wants to see Spidey in the MCU.

I can understand wanting it, I'm just not understanding why that's more important to you than quality.

And, to explain it then, it's because overall I don't like the MCU. I love CA:TWS, Iron Man and Iron Man 3 but aside from that I find it okay at best and awful at worst. And I really am liking this series so far and so I wouldn't want it to be tied to something I don't care for.
