Comics What direction would you take Amazing Spider-man if you were a writer?

**** I wish I didn't ask now. I haven't read any New Avenger stuuf yet but I'm getting the first two arcs this week off amazon

Hope you didn't order those for Spider-Man's contributions...

See if you can tell a difference between how Bendis writes Ultimate Spidey and regular Spidey....I couldn't...

To be fair, I kind of enjoyed the second arc. It had it's fair share of stupid moments, but I didn't mind it.

No idea why Spidey's there though, that's a real thinker.

Ah well, I dropped the title not long after 'Sentry'.

Is it really the writer who decides in which direction the comic should go? Isn't that the editor's decision? Even if you have some interesting ideas you can't be sure Marvel would let you do exactly all that you want to do.

You're absolutely right. Any of us come into Marvel with these ideas they're going to look at us and probably say, "Who do you think you are? You're going to do things THIS WAY!"

I figure this thread is more of a imagination type thing where we step in with complete and total creative control of the character...well, because we kick ass...and I can imagine that I rule, and all the others suck. :)

I didn't mean to rain on your parade, and I'm not trying to diss your creativity,it's just the wrong kind of creativity IMO. Dimension can be added to characters without changing them.

Like in Web of Death,DeMatteis showed a new angle to Ock.Despite how much he hated Spider-Man,and had always seen him as a pest,he also saw him as a worthy and decent self sacrificing adversary.Someone he could have been.Hence the parallel between Octavius and Parker. One is the geek turned hero, the other is the geek turned villain.

And the fact Spidey was dying,Ock felt cheated.Cheated out of killing his greatest enemy.Remember when he found Spidey unconscious, and he said to himself it would be so easy to crush him to a bloody pulp there and then. But he refused to,because he wanted him in peak condition for their battle.Hence why he cured him.

A wonderfully twisted logic. He did something decent, but for completely evil reasons.

Well if Ock ever helps anyone, there has to be something in it for him.And practically everyone he's teamed with,he has betrayed.

So what possible incentive could Ock have for helping Spider-Man find his child??

That might be best ;)

I know what you mean about Ock, I do. But I still feel I could pull off evolving the Ock/Spider-Man relationship. I just need to sit down, finish my character studies, and see what I can do without stepping on too many toes.

Wouldn't you think Ock would feel a little left out knowing that the villain who has driven Spider-Man the craziest is Norman Osborn? To me, that's motive enough to drive Octopus to want to screw over Osborn. But to truly screw Osborn over he needs to keep Spidey alive.

Once he screws over Osborn, helping Peter get Baby May back, he tries to finish the job on Spider-Man.

Like I said. Just a quick idea that popped into my head to help kick start the story that will lead Spider-Man to find his lost child. And to also deepen the relationship between Spider-Man and his villains.

And if I can't use Ock, I could always use Chameleon to pull some strings. Maybe Electro but I would be sort of ripping off Millar in that respect.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Yes I do think that would work.I know Ock sees himself as Spidey's greatest adversary, which he is IMO.It would hurt his ego to find out someone else managed to do something he didn't,kill someone Spider-Man cares about. After all Ock did try and kill someone Spider-Man cares about before. And he unmasked Spider-Man once in ASM#12,but refused to believe Peter was Spider-Man because of the poor fight he gave.

It would be a slap in the face to know it had been under his nose before and he never realized it.

Once he screws over Osborn, helping Peter get Baby May back, he tries to finish the job on Spider-Man.

That could work if handled properly.

Well I think the ideas you pitched for Ock there worked.Your initial ideas of Spidey revealing he lost a loved one inspiried sympathy and even mercy from Octavius, that is out of character.

Although you could have Ock say that if he is merely trying to BS Spider-Man into allowing him to help him. Thus allowing himself to get close enough to Spider-Man to destroy him.

Hidden agendas and backstabbing is a character trademark for Ock.
