What do you guys think of CinemaSins and Honest Trailers?

They are all clearly failures at getting into the movie business and sometimes it becomes clear why like with Stuckman's BvS script. I have never watched Honest Trailers but I used to watch Cinema Sins and occasionally still Watch Nostalgia Critic or real Thoughts with Doug and his brother (Robb I believe?). Cinema Sins did seem to start saying things were sins when they weren't plus it was never clear what constituted an actual sin. My fav Cinema Sins video is still the one for Dragon Ball Evolution.
Despite being failed movie makers I do think some of these guys arr talented and hard working, like Doug and his crew who seem to put a lot of thought and work into some of their skits. Plus I admire NC for at least calling out some of his and others fan boy bs such as admitting The Shining miniseries did Jack Torrence better or if you hate The Last Airbender just go watch the cartoon series.

So what if they didn't do well in breaking into the movie business? They are still good at what they do, have built audiences and fanbases online and have done well for themselves.

Michael Jordan was a failure at baseball too. I'm not saying these dudes are like Michael Jordan level. But my point is this, some people try something and it doesn't work out and then they go and do something else that they are good at or successful with. Even if they are failed filmmakers, they doesn't mean they aren't allowed to discuss movies or make fun of them.

Was that the "tell that to Zod's snapped neck" one?

It's not like Batman v Superman had amazing dialogue, considering Terrio and Goyer were having Batman either 1) quote Dick Cheney or 2) quote direct dialogue lifts from The Dark Knight Returns without really understanding that book.

I used to watch movie fights every week but i soured on it. Too many stupid things said. Too much max Landis. You're right on honest trailers not being as funny as it used to. I thought the Alien Covenant one was the funniest in a long time.

Alien Covenant is so easy to make fun of, though. It's just...so very dumb.

True. Sometimes it's hard to believe it has the same director as Alien. But then you remember he made Exodus as well.

I far prefer Honest Trailers over Cinema Sins. The Cinema Sins guys seem like cool people but there is a reason their videos used to be 5/6 minutes rather than 20. Whilst some of it is genuinely funny there is a lot of beyond nitpicky stuff they point out which is clearly the personal gripe of the writer. It really does take the fun out of it when you inspect every moment and scene with a toothcomb, there is a reason suspension of disbelief is a thing.

I constantly think about previous classics and how they'd be perceived today, we live in an era where every camera movement and change to the colour grading is scrutinised, not many classic films would hold to that. If Die Hard came out now it would be "seen it before", "another quippy hero". You can't do anything original because the first reviews instantly try and tie it to recently released hits, a poor offending of this being when Adjustment Bureau was "Inception meets Bourne". It clearly wasn't. Videos like CinemaSims don't help any of this. They poke through every frame for inconsistency,

Honest Trailers though I usually find pretty damn hilarious as they usually stick with less popular movies and if they do a good film then they flat out say. They don't punch you for 20 minutes with negative after negative, they do show great moments in **** movies.

I like Cinemasins, but their videos have just gotten too long lately. Even 10 minutes is fine for some quick entertainment. And it is just poking fun, not mean-spirited or anything. But when they are 20-30 minutes long, the videos start dragging and I lose interest. That length really only works when the film is so full of stuff to make fun of to hold interest for that length of time.

Something like Nostalgic Critic can go that length because Doug Walker brings a lot more comedy outside of just poking fun at specific flaws in a film.
