- A wink towards Lex or LexCorp, setting him up for the sequel ala the Joker card in BB
- Going off the above: perhaps a man named Otis representing LexCorp's stake in military weapons and interest in the Kryptonians, like Agent Coulson in Iron Man
- A mention of Keystone City in the Smallville scenes, referencing its place in Kansas as well
- SOME sort of mention of Lana Lang or Pete Ross, perhaps when Clark comes back to Smallville and Martha says that they've long since moved away
- The military coordinating with the Smallville police, with the police chief being named Chief Parker
- Some kind of scene referencing a historic Superman cover. I'd say the Action Comics #1 cover but Returns sort of did that already. Maybe a shot of Supes flying and the camera catching him in the position he was in on the Superman #1 cover
