This was something I did not know until recently. We all belong to various generations, which shapes us..and in a way..influences us. I could have done a chart for Europe..but there was more information on America. So,that will be where the poll comes to. Now with the years,it can vary from person to person..or source to source. But for the most part, they all average on the same decade or year. I'll put in a small commentary with each generation, and it's up for discussion. Did your generation see more..or did it have it better? Tell me how it was in the good old days.

The Greatest Generation

The group of Americans who fought in World War 2 and in some cases were born not too far after the end of World War 1. Modern America basically begins with them,because..well before them, the previous generation the Lost Generation (roughly 1880-1899) is dead now. The years for the Greatest most commonly are 1911-1924,remember they had to be in their late teen's to early 20's when World War 2 broke out.

The Silent Generation

There is really nothing to say about this group. They are the ones who were too young to fight in World War 2. Officially it's 1925-1945,but most commonly I've heard it's always the 1930's. Size wise,it's one of the smaller generations. When compared to the Boomers and such. Here's a fun fact,no one from the Silent Generation has ever been America's President. If John McCain does it,then he will be the first.

The Baby Boomers

The Boomers were born right after the end of the war to 1964 officially. But I like to think of the Boom ending in 1957,because birth rates began to fall that year. Added to that, the Boomers have the largest Generation range. Maybe because no one can think of the small area between the end of the Boomers and the start of Generation X. The Boomers are the generation currently being forced out of the spotlight..in the work place,by retirement and the fact that some young people want them out...for various reasons. The Boomers were the first Generation to grow up with the threat of the Cold War.
*Generation Jones*
Well,in a way there is a sort of "buffer" group that's too young to be a Boomer and to old to be a X. So that's where this first cusp is,a cusp is a term used to describe a gap in between generations and those in the gap can sort of identify with either generation before or after it. The Jones seems to be to 1954-1964.

Generation X

Currently this generation has people in their 30's. The more classic notion of them were the grunge teens in the 90's,one of the best examples was Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Think of that,I remember X being called the first generation to make less money than the previous one in the work place. Because of the large numbers of Generation Y,I would seem to call X's parents being a mix of the Silent Generation and Baby Boomers. The X also grew up in the 80's,yes 1984 and other Apocalyptic things. Years seem to be 1965-1980.
*MTV Generation/Boomerang Generation*
The second cusp, this sub generation is 1981-1986. These are those who grew up in the 90's,and are currently effected by the poor job market. Right out of school, the American economy crashed. Forcing many to go back home, hence the term 'Boomerang'. Some grew up watching MTV and such,Beavis and Butthead. Last generation to grow up with Cold War ideals, some of the Boomerangs were in their teen's when September 11th happened...what a way to end your childhood,a shame.

Generation Y/Millennials/Echo Baby Boom

I would think these are the bulk children of the younger Boomers. As some X'ers may have noticed, this generation claims to have grown up in the 90's. When in many cases, they have not. Years are 1987 to 2001,so when you put that into account they grew up in the late 90's and early 2000's. First generation to grow up with computers mostly,a good number of the Y were still children when September 11th happened. This generation seems to have a ego, most of it was left over from X and the 90's.

Global Generation

Not much is nown about this generation. Born after 2001,it's said they will grow up in the 2010's and 2020's..so it's hard to put a year when the Generation will end. I can imagine they are the children of the X and grandchildren of the Boomers. Odd to see the Greatest Generation as Great grandparents, but that's how it is. Due to the internet and how the world is now, this generation will no doubt be even more connected to technology than even Y was. The Globals are the current generation of children, hence below 10 years old.

I don't see a tidbit on Baby Busters. What gives?

I guess I am a Boomerang/Mtv Baby, too bad I fn hate Mtv

I'm generation Fox Kids

"Waits for people to get the referance"

Echo Boom. And yes, I did grow up in the 90's. My memories start from some time before 1991, so that's where I started to grow.:cmad:

...no but seriously, Echo.

Echo, I suppose, but my childhood is kind of 'when I grew up', so I can definitely say that I 'grew up' in the 90s.

I always wanted to be part of the bigger generations and not some sub generation but i guess i'll accept it. I can see alot of people had to go back to their parents . Thankfully I only went back for a couple months . The best thing about being part of this generation is that I can blame my lack of motivation and idiocy on subjecting myself to hours of mtv. I was young I didnt know better , I thought Beavis and Butthead were hilarious and wanted to go to college just so i could go on sprink break.

Damn, I figured there would be more people in my generation...now I feel old....

Boomerang Generation.

Also, "Peter Porker." Haha, that's great!

Boomerang... I hate MTV though; was never allowed to watch Beavis and Butthead anyways, but I think it was more popular when I would have been too young to really care to watch it.

There is going to be someone who puts that they were born around 1911.

Boomerang.

In a way, I think "MTV Generation" also fits for us, since we're the last generation to grow up watching actual music videos on the channel. Oh, sure, you Echo kids have your TRL inbetween your reality shows, but us Boomerangs used to watch the Real World and Road Rules (the only reality shows they aired at the time) inbetween our videos, and practically only on weekends. We also had all of MTV's cartoons (The Maxx, The Head, Aeon Flux when it was more than just a bad movie, Beavis & Butthead, Daria, Liquid Television).

We also watched the best seasons of The Simpsons. How are those gratuitous celebrity cameos and constant comparisons with Family Guy treating you?

I am also a Boomerang and I think we enjoyed some of the best years of SNL as we are the Ferrel, Ana Gasteyer, Cheri Oteri, etc...generation.

As for MTV, loved Daria, Dr. Katz, and Celebrity Deathmatch.

And of course we grew up with Conan and Andy Richter to help get his career going...Andy isn't doing to hot.
