I am referring specifically to The 1990's and 2000's. You can't tell me the only groundbreaking thing to come out of music in the last 20+ years is Grunge.

Yeah, there was some other stuff; techno, gangsta rap(oh boy), etc.. Their were some really original groups but nothing has shaken the world musically like the Beatles did. Then when you add on bands like Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, and The Doors I think - my god, my generation is seriously lacking musically. It makes me wonder where else my generation is lacking.

Just putting this out there.

It's called American Idol. It Diversified.

You're comparing The Beatles to American Idol? If you are, I've lost alot of respect for what The Beatles did musically.

The new Beatles:
Ruben Studdard
Clay Aiken
Kelly Clarkson
Carrie Underwood

I'm thinking about the Affect of the "music scene" on the average person, I'm comparing it to the popularity and the Beatlesmania.

The Beatles music was only part of their cultural impact. When every celebrity is speaking out against some issue and when every artist is trying to do something bigger and better and when the 60s called for all these things that the 90s and present time dont, it loses its specialness.

The only equivalent I can think of from the '90's is rap's 2Pac. After he died, rap gradually turned into ******ation with microphone access.

Nowadays, there is no one deserving of The Beatles's throne. Other genres of music these days has fallen to the same disease rap fell to.

It's all become emo screaming, whining, and lack of skill with the instruments.

With that said; do you believe the Beatlesmania, as you called it, will ever be matched?

If so, is it possible that Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was right in that a musical group will one day rise and unite the world? Or was that movie simply a mocking blow at musicians of the future and their causes?

I would say Nirvana is just about the closest thing to the Beatles we are going to get.

I think people would like to call U2 the next Beatles. I dont so much

Bill and Ted are definitely poking fun and Beatlesmania will never be topped because people just dont care anymore. Plus theres too many options nowaday for everyone to like.

Plus the greatest bands IMO are the ones people havent heard of.

I think Beatlesmania has been matched, but only by bands like Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, etc. In the future? Not unless the industry does a sudden turn-around. With idiots in the music industry in power like 50 Cent, and crybabies like Fallout Boy leading their so called genre of "rock", we're doomed.

I would say Nirvana is just about the closest thing to the Beatles we are going to get.

Not even close. Nirvana and Kurt Cobain are praised for the same reason almost all other dead artists are- because they died. An artist's death does not make him or her a visionary or pioneer. Kurt was good, but far from the best.

Take Eazy-E for example. The guy died of AIDs and went down as one of the greatest and most legendary rappers of all time. You know what he did? Said "F**k the Police." THAT'S IT. He helped skyrocket the animosity towards cops in the rap community.

He's by far one of the worst lyricists of any genre, and I've heard bricks with more talent to flow with its words than Eazy had.

Nirvana= good, but nowhere near The Beatles.

I was just about to say, Gen X's version of the Beatles ended when there version of John Lennon got killed by there version of Yoko...Nirvana, Kurt, and Courtney Love, respectively.

there is nothing in modern music that can even begin to compare to either the popularity or quality of the beatles. on the popular side of things, 99.99% of popular bands today are s#!t. on the quality end, the vast majority of quality bands today will find no success in today's music industry.

as far as rock experimental rock music goes, i would reach as far as radiohead, although they've had less singles and pop hits.

as far as hiphop, run dmc. maybe jay-z, i admit the man has made an impact

Oasis try really really hard to be the Beatles...ok, they dont succeed, but they try, you have to give them that.

if your looking at popularity alone, then the numbers would say n'sync is this generations beatles. and obviously that's bulls#!t.

if your going by quality, then its gonna be a band no one has ever heard of. in my opinion, that band would be THE GO. but thats just me.

im honestly surprised you havent said white stripes

i would say that they're the highest qualified band in todays popular music. but they're far from being one of the most popular bands in modern music (though, probably one of the most respected). but bulls#!t bands like nickelback outsell the stripes by leaps and bounds....unfortunately.

I don't think there has been, or will be, anything quite like the Beatles ever again. It's simply a different time, and we're exposed to so much musically and otherwise, that I don't think we'll be impacted in the same way, nor should we really expect to be. I mean there have been a fair share of headliners and record breakers stemming from the 80s and 90s and continuing into 2000s--think Michael Jackson, Madonna, or even Mariah Carey (I guess)... and some of them may very well top the Beatles in hits, but I don't know if any of them will be considered to have the same impact or achieve the same levels of praise and success that the Beatles have had.

GUNS N' ROSES, no questions asked, hate all you want

Oh, oh I've got one! Nine Inch Nails, if we're only going by quality.
