What Got You Out Of/back Into Comics?

Got into them when my best friend, a massive collector, died and left me his collection in his will.

Got primarly Spiderman and comics featuring dinosaurs after that.

Got out of Spiderman with The Final Chapter.

Got back into Spiderman with JMS taking over, then went back and filled the gaps just to keep things complete.

As a kid, I was never actually into comics, but I was VERY much into Batman, and the Batman movies. And obviously, after B&R, my interest was pretty gone, I got into Star Wars instead, and other things.

Then, after hearing random rumors that never materialized for years, I finally found out BB was happening in early '04, so I started digging around on the internet for it, found Batman-On-Film, found the Hype, and just from posting at the Hype, I found comics, and really got a desire to read them and really get into them.

Is it wrong that I want to touch myself to your avatar?

Let's see....

In the 3rd and 4th grade,X-Men was all the hype with the comics, cards and cartoon.

The Batman and Superman cartoons were also very popular at that time.

I would always pick up comics at the local Wal Mart but never followed stories monthly,so I would end up with alot of different parts of stories.

When the first X-Men movie came out,I got back into it.I started buying back issues and began following the brand new Ultimate X-Men at #1.

Then high school kicked in,and my semi interest in comics completely got blown to the side.

Years later,X3 was in the works and I was in first year college.I started going to the shop, which is about a 15 mins walk from my house, and started buying X-Men back issues again and following Ultimate X-Men's Magnetic North.

Slowly,I began branching out into other Marvel titles and even made a jump to DC.I don't read any X-Men comics anymore which is funny.

Man, that sucks about your friend. I was thinking about doing the same thing for mine if anything ever happened to me.

What has been your reason(s) for getting out of/back into comics and how many times?

I stopped buying comics at like 10 because I got into skateboarding and took all my focus and what little money I could get.
I got back into them in high school because a friend lent his copies of "Venom Lethal Protector"

I had a few sporadic issues of Indiana Jones, Star Wars and one Spidey reprint in Marvel Tales in the early 80's.

But in 1985 I got more interested with G.I.Joe and Transformers comics, then I moved onto Batman in '87 and have been collecting since.

In summer 2005 the Toon Disney channel reran the X-Men cartoon and that made me want to read the comics. I started out collecting X-Men and Uncanny X-Men and reading Ultimate X-Men TPBs from the library. I've read lots of other comics and TPBs since then, but the ones I collect monthly are still X-books, except for Nextwave.

Ultimate spidey on the marvel website and the essentials line.

out: uni ££££££

back: saw a copy of preacher vol5 in my local second hand book store. Bought it, read it, bought all the remaining volumes the next day! :D

Got into comics thanks to dreamwaves transformers. After that I wanted more and started picking up random minis from Marvel and DC. Then whenever a new number 1 came out from them I would buy the series. But now I want to get out its costing to much and the storys aren't that great anymore. So I tring to drop some and just buy trades.
