when does the new star wars spoof episode air?

Making jokes about John Merrick is where FG went over the line.
why is this where they crossed the line? FG has made jokes about kids dying of cancer and spousal abuse and 9/11.

there is a well known quote from al capp- "all comedy is based on man's delight in man's inhumanity to man"

as capp puts it, we are not "heartless wretches", but "normal human beings, full of self doubt...full of a desperate need to be reassured."

that need for reassurance comes in the form of those of us that take pleasure in the misfortune of others great or small. and it takes the form of those who live through misfortune and need to find a way to laugh about it. i have a friend who was molested. guess who's laughing hardest at the herbert jokes. see what i'm saying?

Only a heartless wretch would find it amusing to make fun of Merrick. Have you ever seen "The Elephant Man"?

yes i have. i own a copy and it is among my favorite films. although it does contain some inaccuracies, starting with merrick's first name which is joseph, not john. it also had characters and scenarios that were created to make his life look worse than it was.

more on point: as i recall the joke on FG went something like this-

Stewie- (about Peter) "he looks even more ridiculous than when john merrick went on match.com."

we cut away to a shot of merrick sitting at a table with a date. merrick glances at a photo of his date in his hand and back over at his date and says:

john merrick- "there's no way you're a size six."

this was what you found offensive? the date has no reaction to him at all.
i can also remember a couple of rocky dennis jokes that FG has made that were squarely aimed at his condition. have you ever seen "mask"?

^Yeah, I think the joke was basically that he was the one doing the judging whereas the chick was perfectly fine so far with him.

Well at least it's not as offensive as last night's South Park.

Except for the full frontal nudity. And insertions.

Full frontal nudity? You could barely see Terrance and Philips' penises. Seeing someones butt would have been more offensive than the aforementioned.

Tonights Family Guy RREEEEAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYYYY sucked hard.

[Lois becomes a FOX news anchor, Peter, Chris and Meg invent an animated series]

Wow so after ripping on the Simpsons and South Park they set their sights on................Quads?

Talk about reaching for refrences/potshots.

Yeah, it wasn't great. It aired a few weeks ago and I probably shut it off half-way through.

Yeah, Seth MacFarlane utilizing Brian as his liberal-soapbox alter ego is almost embarrassing to watch (and I say this as someone who regards themselves as being fairly liberal).

"FOX NEWS HAS A CONSERVATIVE BIAS DERPPPPPP!"

We get it, Seth MacFarlane. We know. Everybody knows. Everybody has always known. You're insulting our intelligence by somehow implying that we don't know.

Great. I just found out Something, Something, Something, Dark Side got bumped to premiere at the start of next season, rather than serving as this season's finale. I was looking forward to that to salvage the mess this season has been. :down

We gotta wait longer now? That blows I was looking forward to it ...LOVED the blue harvest sendup

Sucks about the delay. I was actually looking forward to it.

wow people still get offended by Family Guy?

The only way it offends me is if it's a bad episode.

High-oh!!!! :woot:

I've always wondered about that. I like Family Guy, but I find Brian Griffin one of the most reprehensible fictional characters on television. I wonder if he's meant to be that way on purpose, or if he is, as you say, a projection of the creator, who is himself such a person who doesn't see himself in that way.

The Merrick joke was funny.

It makes sense when you think about it.

And not offensive. Shockingly.

I'm fine with Brian being the Liberal soap box.

Doesn't exactly hide from it. Remember, even Lois mentioned about how he was siding with Moore...pointing out that we've all got our POV's that we try to fight for.

I find it funny that Iraq, 9/11, the holocaust are all fair game (as well they should be), but make fun of the friggin' "elephant man" who died well over a century ago and that's just "too far" for the poster. Um, what? :yay:
