Sequels What if Brandon Routh said no?

Internet was in the 70s but only for government personal. I had a RadioShack Coco Computer that had internet on it when I was a little kid. But that is off topic. I know what you mean though. I think the Superman fans would do the same thing as they are doing to Brandon Routh. Tom Welling is NOT this generation's Superman. Maybe Clark Kent but not Superman. I don't see him fly around in the suit at all. Newbern did a excellent job of providing the voice for Superman in the 90s animated series. Superman really isn't made for TV anymore because it usually will fail for some reason. The 90s animated series only last for wht three seasons but they were good. I guess it fail so it can boost Justice League to be on the air. If anyone is this generation's Superman it would be a tie between Newbern and Routh. For years Superman fans wanted a movie and when they finally got one the fans trash it.

Fans wants either a new director, new Superman/Clark Kent, new Lois Lane, and so on. Brandon Routh looks to young to be Superman. Well, so did Christopher Reeve but you all love those movies. George Reeve was in his 40s when he played Superman but you won't find anyone like him. The Adventures of Superman made Superman look like a greek god. George had the look of a greek god. There isn't anyone who looks like him. Not even Ben Affleck look like him and he played him in Hollywood land.

I saw in a thread that how come they pick some like Brandon Routh and this movie takes place 5 years after Superman II. Shouldn't Superman look a little older? Um, no because Superman doesn't age like normal humans do. Oh, Brandon Routh is only two years younger than Tom Welling. So what is the difference. Tom Welling would look to young for Superman as well. So in all of your minds you can choose between someone who looks to young to play Superman or someone who looks to young to play Superman. Hard choice since both are to young to play Superman. Brandon Routh is Superman and he will play Superman in the sequel so I guess it will fail in the box office since people doesn't like Brandon Routh. The next sequel after this one might be the final Superman movie that we will see in about 15 or so years.

First off he doesnt need the suit to be "Superman" in the eyes of the fans, meaning the character needs to save people, stop bad guys from taking over the world being a hero even without the suit.

On the show he's done that from the first episode so we are watching how he becomes Superman by how he learns to use his powers, and so even tho he's not SUPERMAN by title.
He is doing Superman acts, and so the fans see the show as a show about SUPERMAN... Since the show is about a young SUPERMAN, and most fans see it as such then Welling IS the representation of the character for live action in this generation...Regardless of the suit.

Like him, hate him, love the show, hate the show it doesn't matter because to this current generation Tom Welling simply is their embodiment to the character of SUPERMAN Just how George Reeves, Chris Reeve, Dean Cain all were in their gen.

Brandon Routh is just an odd looking dude who is way to young to play SUPERMAN!

He was badly cast I mean the guy LOOKS younger then Welling, and he is younger!

Oh, and don't give me that "superman don't age like the rest of us" non-sense because then explain how Lois Lane went from a mid 30's looking woman in Superman 2 to someone who looks like shes 15!
The entire cast of Superman Returns was cast wrong, and that's a major reason why the movie flopped.

That, and because the director, and writers are a bunch of hacks...

But still Tom Welling's Clark Kent is supposed to be more Superboy than Superman. He's still learning who he is before anything so I think the suit comment made about Welling being Superman in the eyes of fans is bunk personally because in order for that Clark to be Superman a lot more still needs to happen. I still don't see him as a reporter for a great Metropolitan Newspaper, adopted a Mild Mannered Persona, done some extraordinary event to reveal to the world who he is, Living in Metropolis, and other events to happen.

Tom Welling is the embodiment of a Clark coming to age like Jeff East. He is not the end all be all of Superman and I am a fan of Smallville. Yeah I don't like some the direction they have gone but I still watch it. And there people out there who think Routh is their generation's Superman, are you gonna tell them they are wrong? I know a lot of Superman fans out there who don't think Welling is their generation's Superman. I have heard a lot of Routh more because of the fact he is in the suit. And what about the little kids who have seen Superman Returns and never Smallville. They look at Routh as Superman. The producers of Smallville loved Returns too from what I have heard. Your statment is your opinion.

As for Routh's age: Don't give me that. A 24 year old actor from New York also played the part and I admit he looked young to me too compared to those first movies. When the third came he looked more like a seasoned Superman. Personally Routh needs to grow more into it like the other actors who played the part. Compare him to Routh and Welling when they first got there as the character.

Like I have also said in other threads I like SR and it has its problems. Routh did good with what he had. And he is a fan of the character and respects it. Welling on the other hand has stated he never really was a fan and only seen the movies. But you know what both can exist like other properties of Superman existed at the same time before.

As for it flopping I still say around 390,000,000 or more dollars worldwide is not a flop. Batman and Robin was a flop. Superman Returns was well intentioned but was not without error. Same with Smallville, and the same with the Reeve Movies.

That show is not about Superman at all. It is about Clark Kent figuring out who he is, where he came from, what powers does he have, and what he do with those powers. He is being Superboy instead of Superman. He is not Superman until he goes to Metropolis. Next, if you think Brandon Routh is too "young" to play Superman then you have to say that Tom Welling would be too young to play Superman too if they would of cast him in Superman Returns. He is only two years older than Routh.
If you think Superman Returns is a flop then I guess 390,000,000 or more dollars worldwide is a flop then. It still is making money while it is in the dollars theaters. So that number will go up more. Here where I live is the same thing that Kal-El Reeve hears. Routh is the true Superman just because he is in the suit while Tom Welling is not. Routh has gone down with the rest of the Supermen of the past minus Tom because he hasn't wore the suit. Superman Returns pays tribute to Superman, pays tribute to Chris Reeve, pay to George Reeves, pays tribute to Kirk Alyn, pays tribute to the cartoons and the comics. So until I see Tom Welling in a Superman suit he is NOT Superman at all. All he is, is Clark Kent from Smallville and discovering his origins. That is all Smallvile has going for it.

TWO WORDS,GAY PORN OR BOYTOY AT KEVIN SPACEY'S HOUSE.

No offence to Rotuh, but id say good riddence.

Sure routh is a good actor and he did bulk up alot for the role, but that doesnt change the fact that he looks way too young.

Look at christopher reeve, and then look and Brandon Routh, are we actually supposed to believe that routh looks like Reeve five years older?

Reeve looked like a man, Routh could easily pass for a teenager. Heck, I know guys in my school that look older then him.

If this movie were a prequel or a Superboy movie, Routh would be perfect. But there is apsolutly no way that he looks like Superman.

Also, I know that Reeve was the same age as routh when he accepted the role, but reeve had a much better build and looked older for his age than routh does.

P.S. The same goes double for Bosworth as Lois. Whos bright idea was it to cast someone that looks like a 16 year old?

Then theres hope for a restart of the Superman films.

I liked routh, but if he was gonna be replaced, would we want a younger supes,or an older, more confident kinda supes?,ala kingdom come.
For a younger supes,I would like to see henry cavill,or tom welling.
For an older version I would like viggo mortensen(put some weight on and he'll be fine)or james caviezel...
Director:..peter jackson, wolfgang peterson,or sam rami.

You just made me piss my pants. :woot:

But I think as a logical progression, Welling would be the right choice if Rooth pulled out. Not that I like Welling, but it would make sens.

[...].....He loves Superman, and it would only help his career to continue. Besides, he's under some kind of contract.

we get into a contract when we get married...and then that contract comes to an end when we decide to divorce...so the contract is over...same thing here...

...but he did good as Superman...he just need a better script, be more buff and learn to act...

Doesn't matter anymore when the next movie comes out, and does worse numbers then SR the series will be dead, and Singer & Company will all go their merry way.
To the next movie they will ruin... Logans Run or whatever.
There is no hope for this sequel, and the only Superman movie franchise I care about now is the reboot in 10 years after '09.
I can't wait to take my kids to that!

I agree any Singer sequel is very likely to do, if not worse numbers than SR, not significantly better numbers. Which will/would be seen as a failure.

Don't totally assume we will have to wait 13 years to see a proper re-start. None us knows right now what is really going on behind the scenes at WB but one thing true with any big film project - and this is especially true with Superman films as recent history attests - things have a funny way of happening on the way to getting a greenlight which can turn that light red.

So fight the good fight. Keep insisting that Superman and his fans deserve the kind of treatment batman, Spiderman 3 and now possibly Fantastic Four are getting. Keep a positive outlook and know that hopefully sooner rather than later we will see a classic Superman film which incorporates elements from all the past Superman incarnations. A film that grows the character naturally out of what has come before by honoring the foundation of the mythos. A film that makes us proud to be Superman fans, brings the fans together instead of splitting them apart and gets the non-fan to take another look at this greates of all fictional characters.

As I said, you can pretty much rest assure this story is far from over.

If Brandon said no...I might think Chris Klein...

heh I just threw up in my mouth a little... :whatever:

Seriously you want OZ Ostreicher as Superman? heh Id rather not get another Superman movie EVER!
But I could see
fraser_brandon.jpg

He was up for the part, and even spoke about it on national tv... heh He wanted the role real bad but the WB went with Singer, and his idea, and the rest is sadly history.

as much as I like Routh as Superman, I would still like to see Jim Caviezel as Superman.

You threw up in your mouth on Chris Klein and then suggest Brendan Fraiser. That is like saying you hate tomatoes and then proceed to eat a bowl of tomato sauce with ketchup on top. :woot:

Fraser is a great actor and he also would've been a kicka** Superman. Seriously, that guy just puts so much into his roles. A very versatile actor and sadly an underrated one!

P.S.: I doubt something like that will happen. If Singer does Superman, Routh is in it. And I'm 100 % sure about that!

Its his own fault. He picks horrible roles. He is incredibly talented, he just needed to make better career decisions.

Ya know, he needs to play some kind of superhero damn it

Hmm... Brendan Fraser for the Flash (hear me out)

as Barry Allen

Anyways, yeah he could choose better roles but he has been a standout in many to me.

Most notable imo was "The Quiet American" OUTSTANDING performance by Fraser

Also quite good in "School Ties" and "Gods and Monsters"

Well... I think Routh played well in Superman but If thinks he s as powerful as Tobey and asking for more money than some one has to explain to him what is to go f*** your self.
