What If the glasses are gone!

Personally, I don't think this is one of those problems that's a problem. It's a staple of the mythos.

Clark Kent is basically Superman with glasses on and a different hairstyle.

That's the joke.

And I really think that joke should be intact, along with some deeper exploration of what he does to throw people off.

I think that the glasses thing is a bit stupid, no one that really knows Clark will be fooled by it. One of my favorite lines from Green Lantern movie: "What do you mean? I've known you my whole life! I've seen you naked! You don't think I would recognize you because I can't see your cheekbones."

This assumes he'll be hiding his identity from Lois. We don't actually even know his job yet. He may work as a DP web administrator, and not come into contact with many people.

I'd rather they just have him debut the full Clark toward the end of the movie, give him very thick horn rimmed glasses, mess up his hair, give him ill fitting clothes so he looks a bit overweight and with a slumped posture as well as him being easily forgetful.

All those things are what they did with Brandon Routh's Clark. It worked for him in that context.

Cavill's jawline would give him away though, right away. It's just Eckhart's chin, so obvious.

A fake wig and beard would really help, along with the glasses.

Too bad it would be awkward for him to shave at light speed before taking off on a mission because a beard would be the best disguise ever.

Since it'd be a fake beard, he'd just have to rip it off, no?

Why are some of u still dont know that those set pics of CK with a beard is when Clark is traveling the world trying to figure out himself... before he even arrives to metropolis.

Agreed. Its not Clark Kent if he doesn't have the glasses.

he may not even need the glasses in this film

unless he is a full time reporter at the daily planet

he does'nt need them yet

I agree, bet he isn't a reporter at the Daily Planet at all until the end of the film and then he'll need them.

It isn't even that...the same element could apply even if he didn't have glasses. It's just...that's the gag. That Clark Kent and Superman are CLEARLY the same person, and yet NO ONE IN THE WORLD CAN TELL. That's Clark Kent winking at the audience. Its the commitment to the bit. It's such an important, charming part of the mythos that losing it simply to explain how he can't be recognized, or to choose the latter approach instead of both, to me that would be a shame.

Umm...we know that.

I don't have a problem with it as long as he is wearing them by the time he becomes Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet.

I think sometimes we give to much credit to people. For example. I'm Mexican and my brothers, although they're Mexican are very white just like Americans. I would talk to some people who didn't know my brothers were Mexican and they thought they were white. But when they already knew they were Mexican and met them after they thought that they were dark. And as much as I would tell them that they were white, the response would be "no they're not, they're dark, they're Mexican" but I they didn't know they were Mexican they wouldn't think they were dark at all. My point is that when people have a preconceived thought, it won't change even if it's obvious. If Superman is a confident, extroverted and awesome individual, then he could never be a clumsy, nerdy, introverted reporter. Plus the fact that the glasses would be easily recognized makes it even less obvious. Clark kent could never be superman, how could he?

No one would have any reason to suspect Superman has a secret identity in the first place. It'd be like assuming Justin Beiber disguises himself every day to attend a public high school, with his own little high school girlfriend, bully, etc.

I was about to agree with you, but then I really had to think about it. Celebrities disguise themselves all the time so that they can try and hide from the paparazzi. Does it work? Laughably not. The best disguise would be not to hide behind glasses and tons of clothes, but to make himself look like his own look-a-like. For one thing, he's not the only 6ft+ musclebound guy in Metropolis, so he can still pull off wearing normal clothes without people suggesting he's Superman. Though, his occupation alone will draw a lot of attention to him and his face will be well known, which is his biggest problem. If his glasses came off for some reason, then it would be obvious that he's Superman.

If he made himself look more like a look-a-like, people would say "he could pass for Superman" rather than "He might be Superman". You would be surprised at how a bit of make up and a change of facial expression can make you look like a completely different person. If you think I'm lying, watch a video of facial expressionists or try it for yourself in the mirror. You can even take twins for example. There are some that look alike, but their features are different enough for you to tell them apart.

If Superman had the ability to change is face structure, then he could easily get around without glasses. This would suggest that niether Clark nor Superman has nothing to hide.

Let me put an end to this thread....

The glasses are NOT gonna be there because.... He will not be a journalist and or Clark Kent (YET) in this film.

Sorry if i insulted anyone, and my apologize, but this topic is absolutely worthless as far as a thread is concerned. Simply focus on the spy pics and you will learn alot. :)

P.S. The "Glasses" are not gonna be gone.

Let me put an end to that claim:

´´In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.``

Or did the good people over at WB/Legendary get it wrong in their official synopsis? :woot:

Read what I just posted in the "Henry Cavill" thread. HE will "NOT" be a Journalist until the very end of the movie when it ENDS!

Nice try :)

It's not a nice try, I think I will take the word of an official synopsis over yours. :yay: But ok, I'll go see what you wrote in the other topic. :woot:

I just wrote something else... Have fun my friend :)

That's party wrong.

It's been confirmed since last year that Cavill's Clark will be a freelance journalist in his early 20s, travelling the world, before settling in Metropolis and applying to the DP.

Have I not stated that it has not been confirmed as "WHEN" he will become a journalist?

He "Will Not" become a Journalist until the end of the film, and I can guarantee that! Mark my words, and don't ask me how I know, I just do.
