Every episode starts out with the Watcher explaining the set up and what actually happened and then goes into the story as it unfolds in the What if world. He'd be like the Crypt Keeper.

Really wouldn't work. Most comic book TV shows are made for the general public as well as the comic reading fanbase, and since most people don't know the original stories, a What if...? wouldn't interest them.
