The scenerio is, what if you came into a significant amount of money, enough to payoff all of your debts and you no longer "had" to work, what would interest would you pursue? If you would still work then would you stay in your current field, change professions, go back to school, become a travel, etc?

Serious responses please.

I'd still work in my current field (although I'd probably do it part time), and spend the rest of my time writing.

Work on self publishing a comic or GN, while consistently up dating my web comic.

Write books
Travel to France
Get a motorcycle and become a nomad for 4 years
Retire on some plot of land of my choosing somewhere isolated

If it wasn't a job I probably wouldn't accomplish anything.

I'd probably go back to school and get an teaching degree, then go teach. While I was back in school, I'd also train for a triathlon, probably work my way up to a half ironman.

Train to become an MMA fighter
Move to Japan
Start my own video game company
Open a comic shop
Start my own film/television company
Start my own radio show
Fund and expedition to the yonaguni ruins

I'd probably do this if it wasn't for my knee.

I would put a heck of alot more time into two of my favorite hobbies - art and photography.

If I got a nice sum of money, it's just help me to get my film off the ground faster.

The first things I can think of are - I would travel, pursue photography, learn how to surf, pursue my singing talents, and pursue modeling.

The question becomes, is it JUST enough money to pay for a house and would I still need to have a job? Is it A LOT of money, enough to start my own business? Or is it an EXCESSIVE amount of money, enough that I could live on the interest without having to work?

Well, i told my wife we would travel to see each of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. Getting the best possible seats, right next to Gwen Steffani and Gavin Rossdale. Then heckle them whenever Roger Federer is on the court.

After that, more travel. Then, I'd open a nice hobby shop and take up customizing on a semi-full-time basis.

Catch up on my reading and writing, travel the world, new learn skills like photography and a martial art, hone old skills, work out every aspect of a personal philosophy (if I had to explain it I'd know the basics of it, but I'd really want to write out everything about it, even the little details).

Fun stuff.

Lets say its enough that would take care of all of your needs and some of your wants (within reason) for at least 5 years OR an amount that if you just invested, it would allow you to become a multi-millionaire within 15 to 20 years.

I'd do a lot of traveling, get my own place, start playing video games again, and get a better computer.

I would probably spend most of my time continuing my martial arts training. With the job I have right now, I can only train every 2 weeks.

No offence, I am going to be blunt, and maybe sound like an ass, but i guess that makes no difference now, but i will give you some advice before i am banished forever from here....if that is what you really want to do, there is no reason you can't do it now, but...you can't be screwing around on the internet every day and night like you are now. This is why many books are written in prison, and the reason you don't see cfe on the boards , the dude is off writing, you have to just write your ass off for years and years before you get any good at it.
