What was the worst movie theater experience you've ever had?

Years ago....there was a local theater that was going down hill....at one show, a couple of dozen people in twos and threes would run in and laugh about how they had came in without paying. I went out and asked to see the manager...when he came over I asked him - "Do you recognize me?" He said "No....why should I?"....I said "Because apparently I'm the only "F"er that paid to get in here!"

Hey there use to be a movie theater experience topic here. Not sure if it was deleted or mods could find it and bring it back.

I remember a group of kids came into a screening out of nowhere and waved torches all over the screen and generally caused noise.

I saw the midnight showing of Revenge of the Sith back in 2005. We waited in line for six hours, got in the theater and immediately once the movie began someone brought out a laser pointer and shined it on the screen for the entire movie. A security guard came in and patrolled the theater after about twenty mins but the guy kept using the laser pointer without getting caught. So not only did you have the pointer distracting you from the movie, but now there was some guy circling the seats.

Not only that but at the climax of the film, during the Anakin Obi-Wan lightsaber fight, the film tore and the screen went black and we sat there for 30 mins before they fixed the reel.

The next day my brother and I went back 15 mins before a showing, got great seats, and watched the movie laser pointer and interruption free. I won't ever do a midnight showing again.

Depends, is it about bad content of the movie or all the other extraneous things like bad food, bad seats, annoying people, etc.?

If the former then for me it's AngHulk by a country mile.

If the latter then I guess Interstellar is the worst in recent memory.

Lost in Space.

I paid to see that s*** in a theater.

I'm actually one of the 10 or so people in the country that was dumb enough to pay to see Steel in theaters. Ugh!

Ok then I usually don't retain that stuff as much so I'll have to go with Interstellar. Never watch a movie at a museum.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Could not wait to watch film but had we had a group of about 9 kids, 5 chose the front and 4 the back and they proceeded for the entire film to loudly talk, laugh and walk/run back and forth to eachother. It's the only time it pee'd me off to the point I had to get someone. They came in once, told them off, stood there for 5 minutes and left where of course they all carried on.

To be honest talking (quietly) and eating doesnt bother me in a mostly empty theater but on this occasion it was at least half full and they just carried on till surprisingly the last half hour when the explosions began.

It also took me 3 attempts to watch Godzilla 2014. In fact I've pretty much had trouble with that movie everytime I have watched it.

The lights went out when I went to see Captain America... At least it was during the trailers. The entire theater of 30+ theaters went all dark.

AMC theaters thought it was a good idea to do construction on a weekend afternoon... they blew something. All the electricity went. apparently it was down for a good couple hours... idiots. Lol! :whatever:

Nope. This was when I was still in my "I'll watch anything" phase of my life. But in less than half a decade those days would be over as I entered my 30's.

I used to go visit a friend every summer in Colombia when I was a teen and on the last day of one of my visits we went to see I, Robot with a bunch of other friends. I was pretty bummed already about having to leave, then during the movie his dad called him and told him we needed to head to the airport that second, because he wanted us there with time to spare, just in case. We had to get up and leave right in the middle of the movie, no goodbyes, no nothing. Sucked, lol.

Mine is somewhat personal.

First Amazing Spider-Man movie midnight premiere. It was my 11 year old little sister's first midnight premiere (and probably my 100th). We arrived early, wore Spidey T-shirts, hyped ourselves up, bought some candy and some sodas, found the perfect seats.

Half hour later a group of like 12 people came in and wanted to sit in our row. ALL. TWELVE. OF THEM. Now understand that when I tell you we found the perfect seats, I mean perfect. The second tier handrail row, directly in the center, you can see every inch of the entire screen. These *******s, they asked for us to move down 4 seats. 4 SEATS! I mean, I'd understand 1 or 2 seats. But they asked us to move down halfway down the fricken row so that 12 of them could hold hands while watching this fcking movie.

I was about to tell them off and say, "um no... if all twelve of you wanted to make out and chit chat during this movie, you should have come an hour ago." But this god-forsaken usher was shouting "PLEASE MOVE DOWN" "PLEASE FILL ALL THE GAPS"

As begrudgingly as possible, I had to tell my little sister to move down to the far side of the aisle because of these A-Holes.

to this day it grinds my gears.

Maybe The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I was visiting my dad at the time, and our go-to father/daughter bonding has always been going to movies, but this one weekend, we couldn't agree on what to go to. I REALLY wanted to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, and he refused, because it was based on a ride and probably stupid. He really wanted to see League because A.) Sean Connery and B.) famous literary characters. It was opening weekend for both, so we finally ended up agreeing to do both. I KNEW LoX was terrible because I'd been following all the b-t-s drama and reviews from the get-go, but somehow it was even worse than I expected. And the theater we watched it in was the most depressing, run-down place, an effect made worse by how empty it was on an opening weekend. We were literally only in there with 2 other people. Our PotC experience, on the other hand, was flaw-free. Great seats with a sold out crowd that was super into the movie. Moral of the story - I knew how to pick 'em, even as a teen. ;)

Now, my worst audience experience was definitely the sold out 9pm Furious 6 show in which some couple just let their 3 kids run freely around the entire auditorium, noisy as could be. Nobody knew WHO the kids belonged to, and eventually people in the crowd just started shouting, "GET THOSE KIDS OUT!!!" and broke out into applause once someone finally did. We all kind of developed a weird kind of camaraderie and energy over it though and it turned out to be a pretty fun viewing experience for that ridiculous-but-lovable movie...once the kids left, that is. But half the movie was over by then.

TDKR, during the 1st Bane vs Batman fight the power to the theater went out right after Bane broke Batman's back. The whole theater went ape "S", myself included. We waited for 10 minutes in complete darkness (smartphones were burning bright) when the manager finally came in with a flashlight and said everyone had to leave the building because they couldn't get the power back on. We were there for over an hour waiting to get a refund/voucher.

When I saw The Amazing Spider-Man there was a kid who would not stop jumping around and screaming. When Spider-Man was fighting Lizard he would not stop yelling. His parents made him sit down and be quiet. The fact that I didn't like the movie didn't make the experience any better... don't even get me started on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Ah yeah, I went through that phase too. We all have, I think.

Sure, it's called being young and not having experienced burnout yet. But Hollywood can wear anyone down with the poor quality of most of their films given enough time. I do miss those less cynical days though.

My 2 worst experiences were both while I was on vacation in Florida. The audiences for both movies were ridiculously rude. People were talking, texting on their phones, a couple ladies sitting behind me were discussing the movie as it played. Maybe it's just different here in Ontario Canada but people here shut the h*** up and watch the movie like we're supposed to so we don't bother other people trying to enjoy it.

My 3rd worst experience was my own fault. Had a couple people talking behind me and, long story short, I almost got them kicked out, only then realizing that one was mentally handicapped and that's why they were talking to each other. Felt like an idiot.
