What next for the WWE, does it have a reason to exist?

It's far from dead...it might not be as prevalent in the american consciousness right now, but it's still there....wrestling goes in waves...it gets real hot for a while, cools off, heats up....their international tours are wildly successful...their yearly show in Iraq for the troops is one of the highest rated shows of the holiday season, they do a ton of work with Make-A-Wish...both Vince McMahon and John Cena have received individual awards for their work with Make-A-Wish

UFC is never going to destroy wrestling because UFC doesn't have storylines or characters. There's a reason why wrestling is still around and it's those two simple reasons.
 
UFC...well MMA in general has its niche audience and for the most part have two seperate audiences and fanbases...no serious MMA fan I know watches wrestling and vice versa
 
I just meant in terms of the brutality. Yeah, WWE has the gimmicks, but UFC seems more raw.
 
Both will continue to do well. The products are similar in some ways but vastly different.
wwe is capable of doing more shows and can also set -up in almost any part of the world.
 
I use to watch wrestling when I was younger and stopped watching somewhere after the invasion.. WWE could probably be big again (like when they had the Rock in the early 00's) but they need to market/manage their rising stars/younger talent properly.

They have the best roster they've probably ever had (or they have had in recent years) in terms of talent but they just don't seem to really do anything about it.. Sean O'Haire is a good example of this.

UFC might be real but it's boring.
 
It will always live on. So much hype and drama. It's like a big sweaty soap opera. LOL

Don't have time to read through every page atm, but I have to say I'm totally agreeing with you so far as the futility of pro wrestling is concerned.

But my opinion won't affect its popularity. I think there are enough people who grew up on the junk for it to possibly survive into the next generation. I always thought the theatrics were lame, although I do admire some of the acrobatics involved I really don't respect it all that much as a tough guy sport.

Like you mentioned, if we want hardcore combat nowadays we have countless MMA divisions to pay attention too. I'd like more WWE type guys to have the guts to make the transition into MMA like Brock Lesnar has, and I hope MMA won't be tarnished with useless theatrics.

I think most wrestlers get into it for the performance aspect....not the "tough guy" aspect.....Lesnar ended up in UFC because he's an ungrateful ******* who walked out on the WWE after they spent 3 years making him the top guy in the company, got cut from the Vikings practice squad, and decided that the only thing he is probably good at is hitting people....

I know nothing of his WWE career, but after seeing how he acted towards Heath Herring I have this feeling that he is a big *******.
He wasn't content with just manhandling the guy but he was also being disrespectful and being an all around jerk.

Basically the reason why I'd like to see more WWE performers get into MMA is so I can watch with glee as they get pummeled. :woot:

How typical....an MMA fan with a condescending and violent attitude towards others....not everybody wakes up in the morning with a desire to beat people up for a living....I recall a good amount of WWE performers showing up at Brocks first fight to show support and fans there basically acting like ******** towards them for no good reason

If you'd seen the match you'd know what I was talking about, he was almost acting like it was one of his fake wreslting matches and acting like a heel.

I think MMA fans might not realize the blood, sweat and tears involved in becoming a pro wrestler, but I doubt most of them care because of how pretentious the whole 'sport' is.

They prance around pretending to be actors, pretending to be gladiators, but most are a bunch of juiced up balarinas who do indeed propagate ****ty values.
 
I don't support Lesnar period....being a wrestling fan or not, a company (WWE) invested a lot of time and money into him and he just walks away with no warning simply out of greed or a belief that he is more important than he actually is....

I just find it odd that MMA fans have such this fervent hate of wrestling for no good reason...it's two separate fan bases and two very different businesses....

Im not going to argue against the "juiced up" part, as that is clearly obvious.

However, this is all just (often poorly written and acted) theater. Of course it often promotes bad morals...those are bad guys...and bad guys doing bad things is a staple of tv, movies and theater. The hero generally wins in the end.

As an avid wrestling fan, I'm not here to defend its artistic value. It if OFTEN unbelievably bad writing and acting. I, along with all of my wrestling fan friends, wish that there was a higher level of quality...but you know what...its dumb entertainment. Not everything has to be thought provoking and intellectual. A lot of these guys are incredibly talented performers though. Their bodies take a beating every night with no off season and some of them are very, very skilled at the art of fake fighting. Others are complete crap and couldnt perform an athletic move if their lives depended on it (and the fact that Hulk Hogan is the biggest star of all, and one of the least talented wrestlers doesnt exactly make it look like a difficult job)

As far as Brock lesnar is concerned...playing a wrestling heel in an MMA match was a brilliant move. Brock learned that people may buy your product to see you win, but if you make enough people completely hate you then LOTS MORE will pay to see you lose. If you continue to win you become something larger in the public eye. This is very good for Brock Lesnars wallet.

They changed into the entertianment aspect

The thing is, is that they are poor at entertainment

They only have entertaining spots here and there, not week after week like it used to. The talent is far less then is used to be which is why they "juice".
As for Lesnar, they was a bonehead move of him and for the WWE. They literally put EVERYTHING on Lesnar. Kond of like what theyre are doing with Cena

They dont care about the other spots and titles, only the top ones. And they couldnt care less about ECW. With all thier shos getting low ratings

I dont watch wrestling since the austin and nwo days, but I wont deny the entertainment value of it. It does have a raunch factor (you can credit mcmahon for that) to it to gather attention I believe. Thing is that it moves a lot of money. It fills out arenas, sells crazy ammounts of merchandise, and gets decent ratings every week. Its not going to go away under any circumstance.

What really makes me laugh is people who dont like it for whatever reason and cant move on to enjoy something else but still have to take their time, and go out of their way to bash it so that they can pat themselves on the back and say to themselves: "I have higher standards". Those people are more pathetic to me than the audience they claim to be trying to criticize.

I started watching pro wrestling in 1996 and Ive watched ever since till this day. I wont/cant lie, there have been more bad years then good but its entertainment. Theres alot of people on this board who like movies that truly suck but hey it entertains them so w/e floats there boat is fine by me. I just hate how much a bad name wrestling gets for being "pro wrestling" and how when people find out that I love wrestling I fall into the sterotype of some idiot who "likes something thats fake".
