And cell phones, cause they kill your semen and give you ball cancer.

That, and they're the number 1#! leading cause of automobile accidents.

Cell phone use in automobiles should be illegal.

Do yourself a favour, turn your cell phone off as often as possible. They may also cause brain cancer (something about radio waves too close to the head, studies are underway).

So was I. Marijuana does have health benefits. Regular cigarettes HAVE NONE whatsoever. If someone could PROVE that cigarettes could do some good then maybe I wouldn't despise the manufacturers so much.

I know you were . . . .

HA! did you know that Nixon hired a specialized committee to monitor the effects of marijuana in order to determine how harmful it really was? It was determined that people who were stoned became euphoric and hungry . . . the report that was compiled after several months of what would become THE definitive research report on marijuana was trashed once one of Nixon's aids was caught in a cocaine scandal . . . in an effort to make Nixon look 'hard' on drugs . . .

I hate smoking. It's an ugly habit, and a filthy one at that. My grandmother died from it. My mother, sister, and father smoke. Tried it twice, never gonna do it again. That said, if a person wants to ruin their lungs, let them. It's their choice. There are only three places where smoking should be banned.

1. Restaurants - seriously when I want to eat my food, I really don't want to smell smoke from someone elses cigarette, two tables down from me. Or the smoke from my parents sitting next to me either.

2. Public places - such as schools, hospitals, etc.

3. If the owner of the property says you can't

Also raise taxes on cigarettes. Make them expensive so that those who really shouldn't buy them, can't. And those who do buy them, the government will make really good revenue off of it, use it to pay off the debt. Same with marijuana.

The united states is kinda backwards on that...

using a mobile phone while driving in the united kingdom is a criminal offence...

yet they still broadcast american shows like the O.C. and One tree hill where those crazy teenagers do it like every episode...bah...

also for a moment, i thought you ment ball cancer was the leading cause of automobile accidents, although there was no audible noise, i chuckled inside.:O

Whiney crybabies that's what this world is becoming. Everybody is looking to take the easy road with frivolous lawsuits, a kid gets outta hand hits a teacher, teacher reacts in self defense, parents sue teacher, school bd. of Ed, state, country. Fat person has a heart attack tries to sue McDonalds. Shut the Ef up everybody. Jesus Christ!

Personally, I don't and never will smoke. If someone wants to I'm fine aslong as it's not around me. I say we make it private so people smoke at their home or out in the jungle or on the side of a highway. Please no public parks, not around my home, not downtown, not outside the mall. Go somewhere you don't bother anyone. I don't want to get sick. What do you think?

i think you need to quit being such a fascist.

it's called a free country for a reason. just be glad we smokers have the courtesy to go outside to smoke. if you don't like it, um, guess what? don't be around it.

simple as that.

I always laugh when I see commercials about people getting stoned and causing accidents. Yet right after it I see a beer commercial that emphasizes the party atmosphere. Both provide the same effect, yet since one is legal and the other isn't, it's demonized.

^and that commercial is followed by 3 fast food commercials, which is one the leading causes for death in this country, as it contributes to heart attacks . . . it's bullshyt; we're lining the pockets of our own gottam murderers . . . . and why the fuack are we looking for terrorists 3,000 miles away

All I have to say is that I was quite pleased when all three municipalities where I spend most of my time instituted smoking bans indoors. It used to take at least two shampoos to get the disgusting smell out of my hair after spending the night in a bar or club, and at that point I'd never taken a single puff from a cigarette in my life.

I really don't mind smokers on an open patio though, and I'll even occasionally join them. I do hate it when people smoke while walking, especially if I'm walking on the down draft behind them. I'll usually try to get ahead of them. Somewhere I visited this summer, either Tokyo or Hong Kong, had a ban on smoking while walking; but the sidewalks there are much narrower so not only can you not pass a person, you might bump into them and get a little burn.

Anyway, the government (in Canada, anyway) will never ban cigarettes because of the tax revenue they receive from their sales. I'm okay with just the ban of smoking in public places indoors.

The saddest thing about smoking, by the way, is when a child born with cystic fibrosis is stuck behind a 50-year old life-long smoker on the lung transplant list.

What should we do about smoking?

Let those who do die from lung cancer or some other disease related to thier addtiction.

The warning is on the package.... oh well

But keep in mind - NON smokers FAR OUTNUMBER smokers. As long as that remains true, cigarette smoking has its days numbered.

Exactly, so the law should protect the majority and do something about people's smoking habits.

Now I'm not saying they should make it illegal, of course not. Then that's just taking away their free will and people deserve the right to make up their own minds about smoking.

But the truth is most of us decide not to take up smoking, and walking through the street with second hand smoke billowing in your face is not a pleasant experience, I assure you.

Drivers on the road have to show respect to other drivers, and make sure that their driving will not endanger anyone else.

So if smokers aren't going to take some responsbility for their actions and bare in mind that they are killing themselves and other people, then they should be made to.

True.

To those who think smoking will be illegal and not just banned, its not gonna happen for one simple reason.

Taxes

that was just funny to read, sorry... unless a smoker stands face to face with you, and blows a very, very big hit of cigarette smoke in your face, on a windless day, smoke will hardly be "billowing" in your face.

if anything, you'll get a wiff of smoke, and nothing else. not nearly enough to take anything from your health. doctors even tell pregnant women today that they can have up to 3 cigs a day without hurting their babies, so... i don't think an wiff or two of smoke a day is going to hurt.

Darn those strong christian values.

Hmm, what gives you the impression I'm a christian? What, all people who are middle of the road to slightly conservative MUST be christians?

Got news for you, my over zealous and quite misinformed friend - I'm anything BUT a christian, eh? I believe in a "higher power", but I don't cling to any particular religion or set of moral beliefs. I'm "spiritual, but not religious".

So, please, take your sad, sad assumptions and move on to a real "right wing Jesus loving nutjob", k?

no, that simply would not happen, but nice try.

the patient with a better chance of a longer life after the transplant will get the transplant.

a life long smoker would not get the lung(s) transplant before a child with a disease.

But that wasn't my point. I was saying that some smokers don't realise that what they do can affect the people around them, unintentially or not. They have to know that they can't just do what they want, when they want or there would be no order.

Otherwise we could have drivers running through every red light they see and showing no regard to the laws.
