What should we do about smoking?

Smoking

  • Privatise it

  • Illegalise it

  • Legal in stores and anywhere outside

  • Anywhere outside (streets, outside mall, etc)

  • Leave it how it is

I don't see much logic to that. That's like saying a cup of coffee or a nice chocolate shake is a sign of weakness, or reading a comic book.

I enjoy doing it.

oh, i know that.
it's a laxative and since it helps with oral fixations, it can acutally cause hunger supression.
but if the government REALLY wanted to get people to stop smoking because they are "so worried" about the health risks, just make some Krispy Kreme cigarettes and tell women "only 5,000 calories/drag" and as for the Marlboro man, just start using the Cowboy from the Village People.

I think its pretty logical to assume any habit that has no necessity or positive affect and only negative ones could be considered a sign of weakness. Smoking is basically drug abuse.

now who DOESN"T want a ciggarette, sandwich, and a nice long nap after looking at THAT picture!?!

I am so freakin' tired of the underage smokers that I see when I walk to and from school. Those kids dunno what they're messin' with. I'm not gonna start smoking mainly cuz my dad said he'd kick my butt I if did it. Drugs are for losers and smoking sucks!

My friends could smoke (some of 'em do) for all I care, but I won't let 'em influence me. They can waste their money on Death Cigarettes and pay for their death if they want cuz it's their funeral. It's not a wise choice IMHO. This Deadite slayer has chosen to remain drug free.

Yeah, I hear this cancer thing's pretty good at helping you lose weight as well. ;)

I don't think that smoking should be illegal...if people want to ruin their lungs, let them do so. However, i think their should be some sort of law that should ban it from inside stores, malls, restraunts, etc. If you are going to smoke, please respect people who do not.

LOL...trying to say smoking is good for you. :woot: Nice joke.

Each of these examples would completely fail to reach the market that Marlboro wants. Hilariously disasterous marketing campaign it would be

I gave up smoking two weeks ago (began in June of this year).

But I can't say I will never begin smoking again.

I understand stores and malls. I really don't ever know anybody who complains about not being able to have a cigarette while they are at the grocery store. I understand theatres too, for fire hazard reasons, and really just because.

But restaurants, clubs, and bars, or other "hang out" areas should not be prohibited from allowing smoking. It takes away from the experience. What's a cappucino without a nice cigarette to go with it? Hell I wouldn't even want one without a cigarette. If I go to a restaurant and wait five mintues to get my order taken and then 20 minutes for my meal, maybe longer depending on what I'm ordering, I'm either going to smoke, or I'm going to take my business elsewhere. Half the point of going to a restaurant for me and many smokers is to go somewhere get away from it all, and have a few smokes over conversation. It should be our choice to do so, and that's what I think many people fail to comprehend. Being able to smoke at a restaurant is half the fun of going there.

If you want a non smoking place than let your businesses owners know by the choices you make. If you don't like smoking at a restaurant, then don't go to one that allows smoking. Or ask for a non smoking section.
Over the next two decades I see almost every restaurant in America having the smoking and non smoking sections seperated by walls and glass windows and with seperate ventilation systems as well.

I think that we should put more money into social programs that educate young people about smoking. They need to learn which cigarettes are better than others, how to light them properly, how to hold them in a way that's most fitting to their personality. It's up to us as responsible adults to educate the youth of our country on cigarette smoking.

That's a waste of money. Were already spending, and any increase now would be pointless. Kids already know it's bad for them.

It would be better to to set maximum legal amounts of nicotine in cigarettes, and and have those rates gradually go down to nothing when nicotine is illegal over the next 10 years.

They can give you tobacco cigarettes without nicotine in them, if they want to. But they don't.

Make it illegal, since it serves no other purpose than to kill not only the idiots stupid enough to use them, but those around them too.

Whats with all these people saying if you ban smoking you should ban drinking? Alcohol has proven health benefits when drunk in moderation. Smoking has no such benefits.

yes but that can't give you an accurate reading to say that people who breathe in second hand smoke are 25% percent more likely to get lung canger than people who aren't. there are way too many variables. for example. in my house we have an air filter. the air in my house is cleaner than that of the average non smoker.

*lol* uh huh... sure... Have you actually done any tests to check how much pollution is in your house compared to another house? Many air filters/purifiers only clean the air that is in the immediate vicinity of the purifier, within a couple of feet. Air filters on the furnace help clean the air a lot more, but most folks have them and do use them. However, furnace air filters are also not all of the same quality, most people buy the cheap disposable ones. You have to buy the extremely expensive super-thick air filters (that look like a bloody blanket) for it to make any real difference to air quality.

So... do you have the EXTREMELY expensive air filter that attaches to your furnace?

im that jerk that lights up cigarettes in hotel lobbys and inside your car without asking permission. i light up inside bars and inside your apartment.
i smoke around babies. and i dont always have a mint. i flick my cig butts anywhere i want. i dont care about second hand smoke and i like to eat my sandwich while i smoke. i like when people think i am almost done smoking, then when the cig is all short and almost at the butt, i pull out a fresh one and light it with the cherry.

Well, at least karma will catch up with you and give you cancer. Or better yet, one of the people you love will get it from your second hand smoke.

I think instead of cigarettes killing you by giving you cancer, there should be one cigarette in about every other carton, that when you lite it, it explodes, taking your head off. Maybe that would keep people from starting.
