What The Hell Happened To Christianity?

Moderators.....will this thread be allowed to stay open???

Close it or someone will post a thread questioning where Islam has gone wrong.

Gotta give the guy credit for trying to "keep it real" and bring things back in focus. He's really right about the state of affairs for Christianity these days. He'll probably be burned alive for being such a free thinker by the power structure and their followers, but good for him for speaking out.

I don't see how this thread contains anything overly inflammatory.

The thread title is the title of the CNN article.

:whatever:

Believe me, plenty of people have.

Seems like these types of threads don't have to anymore.

It seems people like to speak about the various political structures of Christianity all the time ... I always suggest that people read the scriptures for themselves. Jesus was a radical in his day talking about the equality of women and treating others with love and respect. The issue I have with the article is that it is from an american point of view and thus talks more about politics and the political fallout of mixing christianity (or any religion) and politics. You want a really scary Christian message - live honestly and don't be a hypocrite = sin is sin. No sin is greater or leser. Jesus clearly indicated that we needed to deal with it. He loved everyone he met, but as suggested in the comments on the article, he came saying that you needed to follow him. Follow him and be honest. That is a very scary message for today.

Christians should be able to look past their differences and agree to disagree. This allows people to discuss issues with respect for one another. Christians are called to love others just as they are, without an agenda. Only then will Christianity see a return to its roots: Loving God with all of your heart and loving your neighbor as yourself.

Amen.

I don't like when writers, or anyone for that matter, makes blanket claims. "What the Hell Happened to Christianity" seems to be a lot more talking about what the hell happened to mainstream American fundamentalist Christianity. You could go some places in the world and find sects and entire countries where Christianity doesn't behave this way, just as you can go to certain sections of the world and find Jewish people or Islamic faiths doing much the same thing.

Then you would know that the thread title came from the title of the article. You would also recognize that the article is a plea for more peaceful activity and attitude from Christians in order for them to be closer to Christ's teachings. And thus you wouldn't have a problem with this thread, asking for it to be closed because you would WANT more people to go check the article out because it has a positive, quality message that perhaps they ought to see. But I'm assuming you're logical and all, so forgive me if I am mistaken.

Good post jag.

Also that is what I got out of the article. Bakker telling Christian that should be more Christlike. How can any sincere Christian argue with that?

You may have a point but I think more should be read into the actual article than the title itself.

I didn't get the impression that Bakker was painting all Christians with the same brush and there is a lesson to be learned from this article by people of other faiths too.

Anyone should really try to live like Christ (even if your 'God-View' doesn't match up with his). Real or not, son of God or not, Jesus Christ has always been portrayed as a good man. There are many worse examples to emulate.

How about you discuss the thread topic instead of worrying about what may happen in the possible future? If you guys can handle it without calling each other idiots or filling the thread with ****s, it will stay open.

Agreed,

As a Muslim, Jesus is a highly revered and beloved person and a man whose character should be emulated by all of humanity regardless of religious beliefs.

Maybe not to you......
And let's face it. The Bakker family ARE not exactly the spokes persons on what Christians should be doing. But I guess that's why you guys liked the article.

THIS THREAD NEEDS TO BE CLOSED! IT'S NOT FAIR!!

How is it not fair? And I liked the article because the guy is RIGHT, not because of who his daddy is.

How so?

What's not fair about it?

It's not like we're preventing you from voicing your opinions on the article.
