My best birthday ever was last year's (2010) when I turned 27.
See, im a huge Orlando Magic fan, but living in California and now Tennessee, going to a home game was not in the cards. But going to a Magic game at the O-Rena was always something I wanted to do.
In 2009 my parents were gonna buy me a ticket to the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately, they were unable to get the tickets, and I didn't go to the game... The game that would have been the series clinching game thatd send us to the NBA Finals.
Well they ended up getting me a ticket to next years Eastern Conference Finals, against the Boston Celtics. Nobody else was able to go, so I made the drive from Nashville to Orlando by myself. Hung out at some Orlando bars, met some people, walked around downtown Orlando, met Ray Allen's mom, and went to the game.
Obviously, stepping into the arena I always wanted to go to, let alone for an important playoff game, was overwhelming. When I came back to my seat after halftime, the people sitting behind me asked me if I was supposed to be sitting where I was. I said yea. They said security people were looking for me. I was kinda like WTF, but whatever, if there are problems, they will come back and I have my ticket.
Some cheerleaders came up to my section, and were looking around for someone. Didn't see what they wanted, and left. People behind me were joking that I had won something.
Turns out they weren't far off. The cheerleaders came back in the 4th quarter and started talking to me. See, what happened was I had posted on the Orlando Magic forum about being a Magic fan from California, and now Tennessee, and how I had always wanted to go to a game in Orlando, and finally was able to, and was making the drive down. Apparently people in the Orlando Magic organization saw my post, and came looking for me (I didn't realize at the time, but someone had asked me where my seat was, and I told them) because they had gifts of appreciation to give me for my support of the team, and wanted to express how much they appreciated my support. The gifts were a bunch of rare Orlando Magic memorabilia and some t-shirts.
The Magic ended up winning the game, but unfortunately lost the series, and id end up having gone to the very last game in the O-Rena before they tore it down to open the new arena.
To this day, its been my greatest moment as a sports fan, and my best birthday yet.
