What was your first comic.

"Spider-Man in Canada #4:Chaos in Calgary"... they gave it away for free at the A&P... It was about bike safety.

I think they gave those away everywhere. I have 4 of the Calgary ones, and 2 of the Toronto ones.

I think they were available everywhere, because I have all 5 of them... I think they go east to west, because I think the first one happens in Fredericton... lulz...

Here they are... these were originally available in Canada only in 1990, but reprinted in the USA in 1993... except for #5, which was only available in Canada...

I have Double Trouble. I remember absolutely nothing of it, though. I do remember the Captain America asthma comic pretty well, though. As a kid with pretty bad asthma, I thought it was awesome that Cap fought that stupid asthma-causing villain.

My first comic was Elfquest issues 7,8,and 9. However the first mainstream comic was The New Mutants. I think it was a few issues before the Beyonder killed them.

Which Green Goblin is that from 90? Is any of it in continuity at all?

I can't say exactly which comic it was that I owned first, because if memory serves I had picked up one of those Marvel Grab-bags back in the '70's, (you grandmas and grandpas might recall those).

Each pack was three comics in a plastic wrapper, with two of the covers facing in either direction and the comic stuck in the middle being one you DIDN'T want, although you couldn't tell what it was by the packaging.

However, its quite possible that this particular issue came in that pack and still resides in my collection today...in all it's no-cover, WELL-worn read pages, and overall thrashed condition, lol..so best bet for first comic is:

So painfully Canadian eh?

I also really like that McFarlane cover on "Skating on thin ice".

Haha, you are right! I have all of those as well!

That giant orange tapeworm thing on the cover of Double Trouble haunted my dreams as a kid. :o

Anyone remember when comics used to be sold at drug stores?

I think they still are. I'm pretty sure I saw some @ Rite-Aid the other day. It was a few DC titles and a couple of Marvel Adventure books (or whatever that all ages line is called).

Chain bookstores like Borders have the spinner racks still with a nice selection.

My first comic was a trade of a bunch of Venom's first appearances in comics.

I'm probably the only one here who started with Star Wars.

I gotta admit I'm surprised by some of the jumping on points by some of the longtime posters. Some of those era's (mostly the mid 90's stuff) was god awful IMO. But if it made you a fan it must be near and dear to your heart. As far as I'm concerned I grew up reading the greatest time for comics......the 80's.

Well, my first ish was a old one when I started... I probably started a couple months to a year before Ben made his new Spidey costume... Because I remember that happening.

I agree though. It's weird to think of the jumping on points now.

Before I discovered a comic book store in my town I use to shop for comics at Waldenbooks which was hard to find a comic in perfect condition because of all the fingerprints and creases from casual readers.
