What would be the Event that would spark the downfall of Marvel Studios?

Jurassic park, Indiana jones, and Star Wars are all franchises that have survived decades and still have a lot of fans. I think the golden age we are living in with marvel cranking out two films a year is limited, but I'm not so sure the franchise as a whole is destined to disappear as you describe.

It may not disappear entirely, but if and when the market changes it will be scaled back immensely, in which case Disney is going to be left with a conundrum on its hands about having a studio doing one type of film. Marvel's long term survival as a movie studio is going to be dependant on them branching out and doing things outside of superheroes, otherwise this hole thing is merely short term success. And I'd hardly called Jurassic Park a franchise that has survived long term, more like it was revived.

EON has been around since 1961 and has only ever made James Bond films. The only non-Bond film they have produced is a single Bob Hope comedy from 1963.

Guardians wasn't a superhero film, and did pretty well. Dr. Strange won't be either.

Marvel is known for its superheroes, but it is a publishing concern with work in westerns, young romance, comedy, horror, war, true crime, etc. They'll be fine.

Marvel Studios specialty is to take B-list and C-list superheroes and turn them into A-list blockbusters.

They have gotten extremely good at it and it's part of the reason Disney bought them.

Every Disney made Marvel movie has made over 640 m worldwide. 6 movies in a row. That's incredible.

There's no reason to move into the heavily chartered territory of other genres with a record like that.

Like someone said, Thanos could end up being the downfall. They've been hyping him up as the "End Game" so if he's portrayed poorly then I can see backlash.

Its not an immediate issue. Marvel films for the next several years will make plenty of bank. Civil War and GOTG2 will still be massive. They are in the middle of a major story arc leading into Infinity Wars. Lots of interests in how this plays out.

The big test will be Infinity War films themselves. Its the grand finale. Marvel's biggest villain yet. The ultimate Marvel crossover. If its underwhelming and doesn't meet expectations, even many of you will come here to rip it apart. It will tell us all we need to know about Marvel's future come 2019 and beyond. Marvel needs to be careful not to get complacent with all this success and think that rehashing old ideas or simply trying to stay a step ahead of DC will be its salvation for the next decade. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

As much as I liked AOU, it did very little to set it self apart from its predecessor.

They already cast Vin Diesel as Groot, an actor I dislike more than Tom Cruise and Katherine Heigl combined and it turned out quite good

Downey Jr, Evans, Hemsworth, Pratt, Rudd, Ruffalo, Johansson, and Cumberbatch just get up and say **** Marvel and quit. Yes, all these actors will be recast one day, but if they all quit at once, or they were each recasted at the same exact time, I think that would be terrible. We've already lost Norton, Howard, and Weaving.

I also think if we don't see directors returning that much would be bad too. Favreau and Whedon are seemingly done after two movies. Who knows what the Russos Bros will be doing after Infinity War, and we will have to see if Gunn returns after GoTG2. Otherwise they got rid of Leterrier, Branagh, Wright, and Taylor. I also want to see if Reed and Watts return for Ant-Man 2 and Spider-Man 2, respectively.

1. If they continue making their best films have the quality of AoU.
1.1 If Civil War is not very good, or they leave enough out of Civil War that it no longer truly is the Civil War story and people don't like it.
2. If they cast bad actors. Honestly Tom Holland seemed like a 'meh' for spider-man, I won't say he doesn't fit till i see him as spidey though. I think so far Marvel has been spot on with actors. (As long as you ignore TIH's Hulk) but I think if they made a mistake in a key role, it could ruin it.
3. Diverting from the comics too much. Most people who have never even read comics prefer that they stay nearer to the comics than not. If they decided to make something drastically different which could have easily been more like the comics and made more sense, I don't think many people will like that.
4. If they prioritize diversity over plot, character development, good actors or even trueness to the comics. It's great that Marvel comics are diverse enough, that no major changes need to be made to convert characters to the screen. I doubt they would make this mistake, but a lot of people seem to be pushing it...
5. A hard reboot for recasting sake. If they did a soft reboot like DoFP, people may actually be more excited about the new universe, but a hard reboot would possibly cause people to lose interest.

Those are the main ways anyhow. The scary thing is looking back at them many of them seem fairly likely actually...

They just don't have any respect for the material and scripts they have at their hands: The comics themselves! MCU is already doomed for my taste.
