I know DC has already announced their next event for next year. So has Marvel announced what their major crossover for 09 will be yet?

I'm hoping something that retcons OMD out of existence.

It was the Skrull Spider-man that made the deal with Mephisto. Therefore, the deal is null and void once the real Spider-man returns.

Joe Q made a comment about how the mythological Marvel characters have been on the rise and we should expect to see something big with them. Whether that means they'll be the focus of the next event or not, I don't know. But it's got me excited. :)

Sacasa seems to have been plotting an "Annihilation for magic characters" in the background over the last year or so.

Yeah, he's mentioned that on various occasions. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that and the Marvel myths come together in one event. The gods have felt too far removed from the magic of all the other supernatural characters for a long time, and it's always bugged me.

You're all living in a dream world.
Just because I hope for something, doesn't mean I expect it to happen. I hope for a world without hate, terrorism, war, and Hillary Clinton, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Asidefrom introducing new villains, I don't see the point of OMD....

I am hoping the next major event leaves out Iron Man, he is becoming the "God" of the Marvel Universe and needs to be taken down a few notches.

Only so long as the Initiative's around and he's in charge of SHIELD. That could be undone as early as during Secret Invasion, given that Nick Fury's coming back in a big way.

I hope whatever it is, it helps revamp Dr. Strange.

Didn't Joe Q make those statements before (or during) when all those "Mystic Arcana" one-shots hit the stands and sold poorly? I mean, even the poorest selling ANNIHILATION CONQUEST mini's usually sold better.

Does the fact that THOR is doing wonderfully well supplant the fact that there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for a mystic event starring Ian McNee (or whatever his name is) who is like some hodgepodge of Harry Potter and John Lennon?

At the very least, the latest X-FACTOR one shot showed Quicksilver directly overcoming his "no more mutants" thing from HOM. Iceman was able to get his powers back quickly, too. Considering that MESSIAH COMPLEX is starting to fizzle and HOM left the X-line in a dead end, we may start to see the dissolving of that storyline.

No, it was MyCup o' Joe week 6, which was like 3 weeks ago:
Deadly Shaolin asks:
Hola, Joe,

1) Will Omega Flight make any kind of return, or nothing immediate?

2) Does the sudden popularity of the returning Marvel gods warrant a further event-style storyline centered around the pantheon of Gods in Marvel? Thor's back in his own book, Hercules is in his own series, and even Ares is doing well as a breakout persona.

3) Do you find it ironic that Brian Bendis, who is known mostly for street-level drama and characters, is able to write very powerful characters better than most big time sci-fi writers can? His version of the Beyonder was superb.

JQ: Deadly Shaolin, how's tricks?
1) I think you'll eventually be seeing Omega Flight in some iteration or another in the near future.
2) While I don't want to say too much, it is a pretty interesting coincidence, isn't it? Who knows, perhaps there is some pantheon stuff cooking.
3) I don't find it surprising at all. In my world, a great writer is a great writer, and they can write anything. What I truly find surprising is that Bendis claims that there are actually women on MySpace who think he's sexy. Now that's surprising!
Besides, I think Sacasa's magic event was always unconnected to Mystic Arcana, or became disconnected pretty quickly after sales numbers started coming in. Still, Sacasa's been sowing seeds and no one's stopped him, so I think it may happen at some point, and pairing it with a mythological event would make sense.
I hope whatever it is, it helps revamp Dr. Strange.
I believe we'll see that with Secret Invasion. The implication Bendis (and now Casey, in The Last Defenders) has been giving is that the Skrulls are ****ing with Strange's magic.

Yeah, "Unbeatable Without a Maguffian Femizon #4" from SI, the new Skrull Empress, is all about the magic. And making her soldiers use codewords that not even Joss Whedon would believe is clever. ;)

Whatever they do, just please for the love of god, just leave the MU the way it is for at least a couple of years. They just keep changing everything every year, we never get a chance to fully enjoy and appreciate the changes that already took place. The New Avengers only lasted 18 issues before Civil War came and broke the team up. Just as i was beginning to enjoy the title it changes. Then they introduce a new post-Civil War lineup which i was also enjoying until, surprise surprise, Secret Invasion breaks that team up too. I'm enjoying the MU the way it is right now, please dont mess with it.

What, and miss another senses-shattering crossover event after which nothing will ever be the same next summer? You must be crazy.

You bought Disassembed that changed everything, then you bought House of M that changed everything, then you bought Civil War that changed everything, and you're buying Secret Invasion that will change everything, and you'll buy the next thing that changes everything, and Marvel knows that you did, and they know that you will.

I skipped two of those everything-changers, but they still keep coming. :(

Stop buying the crossovers then.

That's actually not a valid argument in this case, since the crossovers affect the status quo of the whole universe. It's been just about impossible to read a mainstream Marvel comic that's not affected by the Initiative in some way for the past year. If kguillou likes that, great; but if he wants to see it continue and Secret Invasion destroys the Initiative, well, there's not much chance he's going to see the Initiative continue in any of his comics, even if he ignores Secret Invasion.

That's what Wikipedia is for.

I know. Still, taking a break from the events and just publishing solid monthlies for a year would be nice.
