I hate how much crap John gets as a GL though. I've never read him in a comic but he was a major reason I watched JLU.

His character on JLU is much different from his comic character, although the latter has certainly been influenced by the popularity of the former lately. John's comic counterpart is pretty boring, though. He had a decent storyline about his being crippled running through the GL comic while Kyle was the star, but that was waved away by the magic Hal/Spectre wand a while ago.

I've never been able to place Ion's power compared to other people. I know its GL < Ion < Spectre but there's a lot of room between the 3.

Don't ever try to compare anything to the Spectre. His power level is one of the absolute least consistent things in comics.

Basically, Ion the first time around = Parallax. Ion this time seems to be well beyond a normal GL but a bit shy of Parallax.

In that case, Ion should be fighting some pretty powerful villains.

He just kicked Nero's ass pretty easily, and Nero's been shown as powerful enough to give two GLs problems. So, presumably, guys who would actually be a challenge to him would be pretty damn hardcore.

Yeah Nero was able to kick the JLA's ass (with Alan Scott and Guy Gardner Warrior) or keep them busy enough.

So it's fair to say Kyle as Io is a fair bit more powerful than when he was just a GL.
