Whats the appeal of bobba fett

the_ultimate_evil said:
actully its was more of a mind set of "i never liked this character but every other movie buff loves him so what the hell am i missing" also the dissucison that got me thinking about it came from another board where a poster was trying to prove that boba was the best villian of the 80's and was better than such ones as skeletor, megatron, cobra commander and a few others.

i enjoy star wars films every once in a while but would never really call myself a fan

Boba fett is better than skeletor, megatron and cobra commander..because he was in a movie..the other's are all crappy cartoon characters that do nothing but talk. Fett is the best star wars character ever. nuff said.

I think Darth Vader was the best character of all the star war's characters.

How can he be the best when he can't even smell his son's fresh hair?

Because his head was nothing but a brain if Empire was accurate.

WIlhelm, you keep making fun of the smelling hair and darth vader being able to smell things..well, I have something for you. Obviously, you never read the ROTJ novel. Just shows the lack of intelligence around here.

here is the quote from the novel.

"He saw the wizened nostrils twitch, as they tested at first, tentative smell. He saw the head tilt imperceptively to listen-for the first time without electronic auditory amplification. Luke felt a pang of remorse that the only sounds now to be heard were those of explosions, the only smells, the pungent sting of electrical fires."

"Suddenly he smelled something-flared his nostrils, sniffed once more. WIldflowers, that was what it was. Just blooming; It must be spring.
And there was thunder-he cocked his head, strained his ears. Yes, spring thunder, for a spring rain. To make flowers bloom."

This hits home even more after we see AOTC. When Anakin rolls on wildflowers on Naboo. He remembers the smell of spring and the rain on Naboo.

There it is folks. Clear and detailed proof that he isn't insane. Move it along, nothing to see here.

Ok 3 points

1) the 3 I mentioned were the 3 I could remember, the discussion factored in two things for 80's, how iconic they were and how effective they were, after looking at it the list included villains such as Hans Gruber(sp), Mr. Joshua(from lethal weapon) Freddy Krugger, the kurgan, the terminator, alien, Darth Vader, gozer, the joker and many more. Personally there’s a lot on that list that are better villains than boba fett
2) boba fett started off as a "crappy cartoon character that did nothing but talk" so you point is that he got transferred to live action big deal, Skeletor did and was superbly played by frank langella, megatron gets transferred next year, the only one I mentioned that did was CORBA commander
3)you want to get technical about a character origins the main bad guy of star wars the big bad darth vader, was based around a comic book character called doc doom, ever hear of him and all he did was sit around and talk and he's ten times the villain vader is.

For someone who gets sick of all the haters around here you’re staying around a lot, after saying multiple times your leaving. I started this thread to have an open discussion about the character and to see if I’ve been looking at him in the wrong light. Some people have made some valid points, he is a well designed character, not a well fleshed out on, but from a design point of view the original character designer (which I highly doubt was Lucas but I’m sure you’ll say it was) did his job well, but as a film character for appearing in 2 movies he certainly wasn’t a well fleshed out character. Now yes I’ll admit I put a few jibes and pokes in my opening post, but anyone on here will tell you that’s the way the hype is, a good 99% do posters here know how to roll with the punches and have a bit of fun. You think some of your star wars threads have been bad, god good mate done go near any political threads on here your head will explode.

Now I know you’ll go away have a sulk and come back with “proof” for your beliefs using some one off 1980’s book or comic saying that Lucas hidden sub text was that boba was really capturing solo so he could get close to Chewbacca and smell his fresh hair.

I heard that in the original script for the trilogy. Boba Fett was going to actually reveal him self as Anakin in Jabba's Lair, & save Leia, Luke, & Han. But when Lucas found out that, that ending had started circulating the fan base he changed it.

It's as rare as a black pearl, to see someone admit something on the internet.:D

Friend, first of all, I'm sure you know that you can't judge intelligence by the books one has read.
Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking haven't read the Return of the Jedi novelization either.

Next, the quotes you posted are irrelevant.

Let me explain, the main reason it was funny was that you added in the ideas that:

1) Darth Vader, galactic overlord, Dark Lord of the Sith, secretly long's to sniff Luke's head.

and

2) that Luke's hair is not "stale", so he must've just washed with Pantene shampoo.

Can you not stretch out with your feelings and admit that that is funny? :csad:

f**k it, its not like i'm gonna lose an sleep over it :yay:

I was six when ESB came out and I think thats the key.

To a child Fett looks VERY cool ... a six year old boy is not interested in his history or role ... simply that he looks hard and says cool things.

Now I'm older I still appreciate him but I admit the appeal has been lost.

Maul on the other hand ... he had potential.

Should have been used through the 3 movies thus removing the need for Dooku and giving the trilogy a consistant bad-guy.

lol, that poster of Luke is pretty funny. I must admit. Now that I see it, I think Luke needed a shower.

He sounded like a cowboy (before Lucas changed it of course).
