Dude, In Empire we liked him because he was like Clint Eastwood. Saying very little and balls big enough to back-talk Darth Vader (back when he was the wickedest).
It was also cool how he hid out in the garbage to follow the M.Falcon. and, at the time, he was mysterious. And of course had the coolest armor 'cause it's scuffed-upness implied that he'd been in a million fights but survived.

Then when RotJ came out, we all knew that George was an idiot to have him die like that, so we all rested assured that he got out of the Sarlaac.

After that, yeah, just another example of how clueless George is. He said that Boba Fett was just supposed to be a passing character and that the only reason he included him in the prequels was to cater to fanboys.

Dumb move.

When I was younger I had a Shadows of the Empire poster from Nintendo Power on my door because it was just one large picture of Boba Fett. At this point, I pronounced his name "Boba Fay" and assumed he was Spanish.
