finished Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen today. was never able to finish it in high school so i'm glad i finally am able to knock it off the list.

now i'm reading The Golden Compass

That's cool, I love that book. Never did finish it in school, but read afterwards. Brilliant wit. Hated the adaptations on film though, they never could capture the true Lizzy Bennet. Hate how some of these classics are compared to the more banal offshoots today. Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights couldn't have been more different from the Austen books.

Cosmopolis by Don Delillo. After having read three novels of his (Libra and Americana being the other two) I'm still not quite sure what to think of Delillo. I think he is rather pretentious but also undeniably gifted. This novel has echoes of American Psycho and also of his own Americana. I mainly enjoyed it. I'm curious to see what Cronenberg will do with the film.

I just started American Gods.

It's the first book I've read from him and I really like the concept and Gaiman's writing style and it's filled with some interesting characters. However for me through the two third mark of the book it loses steam and the ending was ok, but overall it's an enjoyable book.

The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios by Yann Martel. It's an interesting collection composed of a novella and three short stories so it's quite experimental in nature. Even if these stories was some of his early works the result are ones that are absorbing and full of imagination.The titular story alone makes the book worthwhile. Very profound.

The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell

Mitchell is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors. I was quite impressed by Cloud Atlas, and I was equally stunned by The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. It took a while for me to get hooked, but once I was, it was hard to put the book down. I eagerly look forward to a long and pleasant relationship with Mitchell's evolving work.

The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger

It took a while to get into since it being the first volume of an epic series it needs to set the story up, it kicks up a notch during the second half of the book, which was also better paced. I'm interested to continue with the series but I'm in no rush.

Catcher in the Rye. First time reading it, but for English class. Bleh.

You don't like any of the film adaptations? I know of three yet have only seen the one with Keira Knightley and I haven't seen all of it. I don't know if she captured Elizabeth completely really but I really thought she had a great connection with the actress who played Jane. I really enjoyed Pike's portrayal of Jane from what bits of the movie I have seen.
