When did the Hype become so lame?

Look, when they announced the modship of Elijya and LS!, I predicted that it would be the end of fun at the Hype.

At the time, I thought it would be because of their respective anal-retentive natures and their mindless worship of this abstract notion of "Civility" and their tendency toward double-standard.

Now, I think it was a bigger wave they were riding.*shrug*

Neither have been guilty of too egregious a mod-crime (in my estimation...Mike notwithstanding), but That morning,...that morning....when the announcement was made,...I felt it.......felt it right HERE!

They were just pawns in the force.net-ification of the Hype......maybe.



But I can tell you this...if you ever see Wilhelm-Scream banned?
It's the begining of the end times.

I'm just waiting for it to become a full on Television Without Pity style gestapo. Have you seen that place? You can't BREATHE without getting a warning. Your phrasing has to match their definition of correct. If you say "I don't know why everyone on here is so bitter"? Instant warning. If you say "Wow, the bitter here is palpable!" No problem!

Plus, they're all pretentious ****s and sheeps. When that boot drops and the Hype begins the slow descent to authoritarianism, not many will stick around.

You know when I think things got bad? When the comic book movies got bad. We've had a succession of really bad films lately...and that has had this place divided...the morale goes down when people's hopes are dashed.

Hopefully SM3 will inject some heart in this place for some.

And jeez, I didn't even have access to a computer when X-Men came out.

I agree. Though LS and Elijya are actually doing a pretty good job in the comic book and X-forums respectively. They are both well run, as they should be. However certain mods in a particular forum bug me.

I remember a time when Carter, Lord Siva and I could safely discuss asian tranny midget porn for 2 or 3 hours and not risk probation....those times are gone.

Sadly, it's just like the American system of presidential election. Those best suited to modship (me for instance), would never in a million years want to take office.

I have always though in "topic forums" you can be a little stricter since the purpose of said forum is to discuss a particular issue or topic and not to allow people to come in and flame that one thing or it's fandom since there should be a more unified gathering there.

However I feel the Community is more ambiguous. Due to the variety of topics, opinions will have a broader range. Also personalities are not as limited on the Community, as topic forums lend themselves to more "nerdy discussions"...sports, debate, sexuality can be the forefront in the community. I think there a little healthy banter keeps things interesting rather than hinders real discussion like on a comic board.

Can anyone provide me with an exact date? Because a couple of years ago it was actualy an interesting place to post. People discussed relevant issues. It seems like everyone cool from the good old days of the Hype has either grown up and moved on to more stimulating message boards or gotten lives and stopped spending every waking hour in front of their PCs.
