God, imagine being one of the people whose first Star Wars experience was the Holiday Special? Aside from the cartoon segment (which is still pretty goofy but at least isn't an embarrassment to watch), that thing isn't so bad it's good, it's so bad it's....just plain bad.

It's been around 10 years since I watched it last....guess I will watch it again sometime in December.

The update to this thread reminded me....I didn't watch it in December, but around May my daughter and I were talking Star Wars and the holiday special came up so I put it on. She thought it was hilarious....my wife thought we were both crazy.

I remember asking my dad for the official John Williams SW soundtrack, and he came home with this^ hideous LP complete with a $1.99 sticker price on it, prepared me for many life's realistic disappointments: "But the leitmotifs dad!. "The whathf! now?"
In a weird twist now I love and appreciate it more, for what it is, over the one I wanted.

What'a going on with these dates? I thought the Universe had settled on Nov 17th? The original air date of the Holiday Special!
Not sure how these dates get canonized, besides being blatant merchandise grifts.
Similarly May the 4th? Not sure how that one got started?
I always preferred the Lucas celebrated significant May 25th, the day SW launched.

It seems fans instead, just liked to invoke "May the 4th be with you", which to me just sounds like a bad lisp?
I guess Disney/Lucas/film recognize the commercial value of fandoms compulsion to mindlessly parrot any inane pun, over an actual historic date LOL!

So in that crass commercial spirit, once again It's that time of year:
Time to role out the Life Day orbs,
bake the Wookie Cookies,
break out the Spotchka,
hang the skewered Porgs over an open flame
and fire up the Delicious Crumb rotisserie!

Will be cracking this open on Nov. 17th!
