Where the Wild Things are.

WOW i had never seen those images, i love the look of it, it is literally so real, its not all glossy and CGI, its real and yet looks eerily like it does in the book, i'm getting really hyped about this now!

Three new images I found.

2009-movie-pics-splurge-10-800-75.jpg

This looks amazing and is now one of my top movies I'm anticipating for 09. For some really weird reason, these pics remind me of 2001.

I would totally buy one of those skateboards and mount it on my wall as a picture.

I've never read the book so do the wild things have names are what?

Holy crap, they were really faithful to the designs of the book.

Ok, so I remember reading this book in school a long time ago, but I don't remember anything about it. :csad:

But this movie looks awesome. :yay:

I think it was that interview between Moriarty and Spike Jonze on AICN that sold me. He's gone to such incredible lengths to make a really honest, organic, real film that's still true to the look, feel, and themes of Sendak's books. He's gone to lengths to make a good movie that nobody does anymore when making a kids movie.

My God.....they look better than I could have ever anticipated.......wow. I'm sorely tempted to buy all them skateboards and hang em all up. Damn...

Where can I read that interview. I can't seem to find it.

This has just moved up to one of my most anticipated films of 09. It just looks so fantastic.

Im STUPID-SILLY bout this movie. This was my favorite book as a child.
I used to draw the monsters all the time.
I figured Id put my own version out before th movie pics came in. looks like they beat my by a few days.

I'M still working on this. I threw in a placement sky for now. Looks like I was only close to one of the monsters. Their version went more cartoon. Cant scare the kiddies...bleh.

Id rather it be that way. I wish for movies like these they would just for once have less concern about maximizing the market and just make actual art the way it was written to be.

I like Forrest's take on it..
“[The dark scenes] are the point of the movie, and I hope that they maintain that point, because I think children can identify with a character who is upset. …[Max] rolls by himself, no father figure; this is a single family home,” he continued, with passion. “His mother ends up having a boyfriend that becomes like a monster to him…people have to build trust with the people their parent starts to date…These are real issues that the character deals with, and I hope that [the filmmakers] continue to explore them, because kids need to see that; they need to see that other kids are dealing with it.”

“The thing is, it’s one thing to read [scary stuff] in a book, but when you see an itty-bitty kid running alongside a 10-foot-giant on the side of a cliff, it gets intense. But that’s the point, because we’re representing the things inside of the kid. They represent his struggles, either him being too angry or being confused, or not feeling like he belongs. They’re a gargantuan extension of the way he’s feeling inside.”

I love this image... this is one of my most antecipated movies of the year.

Fantastic!

It's like, they look very non-threatening and emotional, but to a child, they can be all of that but also very frightening. I think they hit it perfectly in giving them the right kind of visual warmth to offset their grotesqueness.

I absolutely agree with that assesment [sic]. They are the monster as intended, but theres something tragic in their eyes IMO.

Totally agree.

I was pissed when I heard the studio wanted to tone them down because it might scare kids.

It's sad to hear that now days, especially when I and I'm sure alot of us grew up with those creepy ass bird creatures from The Dark Crystal and dark/depressing cartoons like Secret of NIMH, Land Before Time(original) and even All Dogs Go To Heaven and An American Tale.

Too many cartoon/animated films are watered down and don't have that dark/frightening element anymore. Kind of like reading old fairy tales and fables, they had good messages for kids but were pretty morbid.

I don't know, I just miss those days.
