The Force Awakens Where (When) to Begin Episode 7

Then there is no point in calling it Episode VII. Just go the Marvel route and call it Star Wars: Whatever.

It is being called Episode VII. That is EPISODE VII of one continuing story...

The reason would simply be for branding and marketing reasons. Regardless of its content (i.e. whether it's a direct continuation of ROTJ or a new beginning following its events with new characters) the next Star Wars movie would likely do better if sold as the 7th movie than as a new one.

A more extreme example of this practice are Daniel Craig's James Bond movies. Despite rebooting the story back to the beginning with zero narrative ties to any of its predecessors, Casino Royale is more often marketed and described as the 21st James Bond movie, as opposed to the first of a new series or a remake of the old Casino Royale.

P.S.: What Marvel-produced movie did the 'Star Wars: Whatever' approach as you described when not directly continuing a movie franchise yet still having it based in the same continuity?

I want it to start with the Falcon being pursued by some huge ass ship that comes out of nowhere, and then someone get's captured (but we don't see who - obviously it's Han though). Kind of like an homage to Star Wars.

Only when they try to save him by the second act, he dies anyways, leaving the band devastated and hopeless by the end of the second act, leaving for an emotional third act. The good guys should just BARELY win, even though they lost Han. The republic having an army of Jedi is what saved them from the onslaught of the invaders (a faction of Mandalorians who helped coordinate with a grouping of species from another Galaxy).

Who said anything about a prequel? The movies will take place after ROTJ, but they will be a brand new saga involving new characters and most likely a totally separate story arc. The Skywalker story has a (godawful) beginning, a middle and an end. Six movies was more than enough.

There is no evidence that this new series will be a direct sequel to the OT trilogy, and thats a good sign. The SW universe is more than big enough to accomadate two separate sagas.

The less of the OT cast in these movies the better (if they insist on a "handing of the baton", that would be cringeworthy but tolerable). Preferably none at all. And if I hear they're needlessly inserting the droids or chewie, my expectations will be lowered to post-TPM levels.

And please dont use the old movies as a template for characters. you dont need a space pirate type and a noble woman and a young hothead. you also dont need a cute droid or a furry sidekick. Something new please.

Finally, the numbering is meaningless at this point. Better to drop the whole "Episode" thing and market it like the OT - with subtitles not numbers. if they go with the opening scroll again, they can use chapters without an issue. Example: STAR WARS: NO LITTLE KIDS WE PROMISE.

From what you're expecting or wanting I can safely tell you to prepare to receive TPM levels of disappointment.

Interesting read:

But things are always subject to change.

I'm super excited for Episode 7. Original trilogy is bad ass. The prequels are a hot mess. I have no knowledge of the expanded universe. And the little exposure I have to the Old Republic is from the original Knights of The Old Republic games (which I loved).

I'm more or less in the same boat. I beat KOTOR like 12 times. Sith Lords was just confusing, and I didn't even know the old lady was an Evil Sith until I was lightsabering her face. I guess apearances wern't decieving.

But as for the movies, I'm tempted to say "don't look at anything Lucas gives you, Don't dogmatically stick to EU canon, don't pick up the story immediately after and go through what each Ewok went through after the Empire fell."

I might be flexible on that first point. Knowing which parts to trim out of Lucas' ideas is probably what made the OT what it is.

I can still play and beat KOTOR over and over, remember dialogue choices, and puzzles, etc---KOTOR was awesome and I never get tired of it.

I could never get into The Sith Lords---I only know the story from watching cutscenes on youtube and reading guides online...honestly, I make it off the opening level and lose interest---every time, I still haven't completed it...

The Sith Lords was released uncompleted. There is a patch for the PC version that fixed it up and made it into a much more enjoyable game. The xbox version is a broken mess tho.

Yeah, I still need to get around to playing the patched PC version. Am I the only person who loved Kreia? Even though I had suspicion from the very beginning she was a Sith Lord.

Where: Space, with the Millennium Falcon flying into a ship, and Han and Chewbacca going on a mission to blow it up.

When: 32-47 after ROTJ.

I'm glad the Clone Palpatine/Vader/Evil Leia/Evil Luke shippers aren't in charge of writing the scripts.

Being as the PT was mostly based on Anakin's story, and the OT being Luke's story for the most part, I would hope the Sequel Trilogy is based on Luke's son/daughter's story. Although I would have loved it if the Prequel's would have been Obi Wan's story, so then this new trilogy could be a totally new character's story (with the over arcing story of the three trilogies being that of Anakin's story.)

Rumors of a female character would point to the possibility of Jaina Solo. Especially since her [BLACKOUT]bros are dead[/BLACKOUT]. Not that is anything other than pure speculation on my part.
