Which Aunt May should be in the reboot?

A) The older/frailer/sickly Aunt May. Let's not rule this out right away without thinking about it. I kinda like this vibe as it plays so well to set up a truely great/moving story arc down the line.. Death of Aunt May. I loved (what I understand to be) the storyline that played out in the comics for that story arc, even if it (I guess) turned out to be a dream or somesuch.

Also, this approach to Aunt May plays more heavily on Peter (guilt, feeling responsible for Aunt May)... ESPECIALLY if the DO NOT make Aunt May, Spidey's biggest fan like Raimi did. *Spit* Yes, the younger more vibrant Aunt May can still leave Peter feeling guilty/responsible for May, but it does not play as well, as May being younger (even if she is poor and struggling), still should be more able to pick up the pieces after Uncle Ben's death (again if she is slightly younger).

B) A slightly younger more vibrant Aunt May. This would make her more relatable to Peter and I kinda like that aspect of what her character could be. Perhaps helping Peter understand his feelings for Gwen or somesuch. But, they could also let that role be played by a friend (say Betty or MJ). And a younger more vibrant Aunt May takes away the great possible story arc down the line of "Aunt May's death" IMO.

So, which one do you prefer?

B)

hopefully younger, upper-middle aged Aunt May.. not older-elderly aunt may...

The hot & sexy Aunt May played by Scarlett Johanson to the point that the villains kidnap her instead of Mary Jane!

But seriously, younger and more... fine vibrant is better than someone who has one foot in the grave

I want Ultimate Aunt May, so I guess option B. An Aunt May that will hold her own with a gun if need be. I want her to be less like a grandma and more like a aged MILF.

Even if she were my aunt, I still SOOOOOOO would, lol.

Helen Mirren...Cor!!!!

Spider-Man-hating elderly aunt. The authentic "Aunt May" from the 60s.

Helen Mirren as Aunt May FTW!

Ah that woman is so...amazing

I'm guessing you're referring to Ultimate Spider-man Aunt May. If that's the case, I say yes!

Played by Meryl Streep? I'd actually like a bitter and angry Aunt May. Nice change from the sugary sweet one from the Raimi films.

Ultimate Aunt May all the way.

Can't we just mix the two? She shouldn't look like she's about to die if you bump into her, but I do think she should be in her mid 50's with health problems.

Helen Mirren can portray ANY Aunt May...

(I just used that as an excuse to show how hot she is) LOL!!!

Well, all MILF or AILF or GILF.. or GGILF's aside. :wow:

I think the older/more feeble Aunt May who does not trust Spider-Man makes for a much more poignant storyline. Similar to how having Gwen Stacy, the girl Peter loves, blaming/hating Spider-Man for the death of her father.

The older Aunt May allows for a very poignant/moving storyline down the line in the reboot, while also playing more into Peter carrying the weight of the world with his great power/responsiblity... as he worries about his beloved Aunt.

An older Aunt May is more sympathetic with the death of Uncle Ben, putting more guilt/grief on Peter, as she being older, her world would of that much more, revolved around Uncle Ben, as opposed to a younger one being more able to pick up the pieces (so to speak).

An older Aunt May does NOT mean that she has to be on death's door for the first couple of movies, but it does leave that storyline open for later movies, and could be a VERY moving storyline that Spidey Fans deserve IMO.

Ben and May shouldn't be portrayed as much older than Richard and Mary Parker would've been if they were still alive, so I'd put both of them in their late 40s/early 50s at most. That way it sort of adds to the tragedy that Ben had decades of life left in him, whereas the comics made both of them into walking cadavers who were at death's door anyways.

And have her find out Peter is Spidey maybe in the second film, so they can do that scene JMS did in the comics where May confronts Peter and utterly destroys all of the silly excuses the comics used of why he couldn't tell her, showing us just how this lady managed to raise someone as heroic as Peter.

Ultimate Spider-Man, JMS Spider-Man and SSM Spider-Man had it right in not having May hate Spidey.

I want the Ultimate version.

Ultimate Spidey is the only Ultimate thing I've read so far, that's good. (Haven't read any Ultimate X-Men yet)

Going a bit younger is the way to go iMo...but I also liked the older version in the previous movies so if they go that route again that's fine as well.

Ah I agree. Aunt May has to be thin and super hot and have a wasp waist and two awesome implants. Screw old people that look old in superhero movies. Nobody cares about people who are about to die.

/\.. I am going to assume thet last post was in jest.. God I hope it was. But even in jest, it's insulting to Superhero fans (us). Yeah, why would we care about a character "about to die"?

I mean, we all "KNOW" that some characters can NOT be written well enough for us simple geeks to invest in. :whatever:

So if the character is old(er).. just throw em away cause NO ONE cares.

I found odd the original sentence "fine vibrant is better than someone who has one foot in the grave."

As for this new Aunt May, I don't get what's the deal with making every character young and hot. Let's have Uncle Ben as a young muscular lad. And J. J. Jameson a blond hunk. Really, don't knopw what's the contribution.

I rather see the classic Aunt May but being a strong woman. Like what Raimi did in Spiderman 2 when May fought Octupus.
