People love to say "fanboys always complain and can never be satisfied with anything." I think in recent years that statement has been proven false as there have been several comic book films that have pretty much received unanimous praise amongst the fan community. I'll never forget coming to the Avengers forum here on SHH on the night it opened and just reading all posts of pure joy and happiness that people experienced with that film. Or this year with X-Men: Days of Future Past, the X-men forums were literally glowing with elation and unanimous praise to the point where there was a thread created to just thanking Bryan Singer on a job well done. For people that are supposedly so hard to please I think we've proven that we give props where props are due.

So, I figured this would be a fun thread, out of all the CBM's we've had in the last 15 years or so, which one do you think was the most unanimously praised and just brought pure joy amongst the fan community?

Either TDK or Avengers. It has to be one of them.

For me personally, it was TDK. The gradual hype leading up to it was a phenomenal ride, from pre-production to that Joker teaser to the release itself. Then to not only see it pay off but receive such monstrous success was a very unique experience that I haven't had before.

I remember when it crossed that $1 billion mark, fans all over the internet went crazy. It didn't just revive the Batman film franchise, it brought a unity to the fanbase on a scale we haven't seen in a long time, and that we arguably haven't seen since then.

Agreed.

X-Men: Days of Future Past!

Seeing the original cast again together for the first time since 2006 was just amazing! I Was totally having a nerdgasm when I first saw the scene!

The Dark Knight and Avengers. Been plenty of solid fan reactions lately, but I have yet to see one that tops the insane fan reception those two had.

The Avengers.

It changed the game for comic book superhero films. It sent the message to studios that we as fans wanted more big scale movies like that done well. It kicked off a long needed craze for having big crossover event films that showcased a shared universe with a real mythological depth to them. Thanks to The Avengers, fans can now see their comic books where everyone lives in the same world come to life.

The Dark Knight. The hype and joy when it came out is something I've never seen before or since for a CBM. 6 years later it's still heralded as the best by the consensus.

The Avengers is a firm second place for generating joy to the fan base.

The Dark Knight, for sure. It was everything the fanbase dreamed of.

What about Superman (1978), Batman (1989) and Spider-Man 2 (2004)? This shouldn't be only about internet forums

I did have a nerdgasm too :)

I believe that also The Winter Soldier and GOTG had big impacts. Cap is about to get bigger than Iron Man, it seems.

By studio

WB-The Dark Knight
Sony-Spider-man 2
Fox-X-Men days of future past
MS-The Avengers

I think I may have to go with Xmen DOFP. TDK and The Avengers were both massive for sure but I feel like DOFP just broughy pure joy and happiness to the fan community. It was surreal seeing the Xmen forums so elated and lit up with glee. It was truly a great experience.

I'm pretty sure the fan community were quite a bit crazier when it came to Dark Knight.

I saw plenty of X-Men fans complain (and still are) about OT screen time, erasing X1-3, Rogue being cut and Wolverine being the traveler. It was very highly received, no doubt. But Dark Knight level fan praise? No. That sent the fan community to insane levels near impossible to reach again.

There was a real push among fans to get TDK nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. The amount of praise it got was on a completely different scale than the other popular comic book movies.

Yeah, I'm just starting to remember all that stuff and it was definitely on another level with the fan community.

Without a doubt The Dark Knight. I doubt I'll see that level of hype regarding a CBM again.

Agreed! :woot:

As an X-Men fan, DOFP brought me no joy whatsoever.

It's Avengers, all day, every day.
I have never heard a theater get so loud.

Iron Man for the end credits scene alone maybe?

Iron Man (not the sequels *shudders*) and TDK. Actually BB could be up there as well.

Avengers.

The movie itself had plenty of nerdgasms but the cultural impact was so great it made being a geek fashionable.

No minor task.

There's only two true options, IMO: The Dark Knight and/or The Avengers.
