I was watching the Incredible Hulk TV pilot again and saw him struggling with bending a crowbar, making dents in his car and lifting it up to throw it over a cliff. He also had trouble later on smashing through a pressure chamber.

I thought it might be fun to see which comic characters - either on TV or in movies have displayed more strength and seemed more "incredible" than Lou Ferrigno's Hulk and put "earth's mightiest mortal" to shame.

Any ideas? Feel free to list any feats of strength etc by said character in support of this.

Seriously? The list is too numerous. But you have to remember, A) there were no such thing as digital effects at the time of the show, B) the show was on a TV budget, and C) they tried to keep the show more grounded in reality. So yeah, Hulk had TV strength.
He should be compared to other TV incarnations otherwise it's apples to oranges. Was he stronger than movie spidey? Maybe not. Was he stronger than TV Spidey? Yeah!
In the Marvel TV universe, he was indeed Earth's mightiest mortal.

I'll bite. Going on Physical strength only.

Both movie Hulks, obviously.
More obviously, the Kryptonite overcoming Superman Returns
Chris Reeve Superman
MJW's Spawn
Tobey's Spider-Man
RDJ's Iron Man, in suit (And Iron Monger, War Machine and Whiplash in suit)
Hemsworth's Thor (And the Warrior's Three, Odin, Sif, and Frost Giants)
Thor in the 70s Hulk TV show as well
Chiklis' The Thing
Chiklis' Jim from No Ordinary Family
Nikki/Jessica from Heroes
Mohinder Suresh, post season 3 from Heroes
Peter Petrelli, Papa Petrelli and all the people using Nikki's power on Heroes
Knox from Heroes in a bank of hostages
Sylar for some ridiculous reason
Adrienne Palicki's Wonder Woman (I liked it)

I suppose there are an equal number of characters he was stronger than. My question now is: Why do you ask?

I just thought it would be fun to see who is stronger, as almost everyone seems to beat him.

I can think of a few others off hand:

Tom Welling's Clark Kent
Arnold's Conan? - not too sure about this one.
Dolph's He-Man.
Dean Cain's Superman (I think)
X-Men movie Colossus?

Not sure if Thor in the Incredible Hulk Returns TV movie was actually stronger than the Hulk. What gives you that idea?

It is fun... if you're not a hulk fan. :D I find it fascinating how much of his recent appeal comes purely from being the strongest, as opposed to his character development.

Looking at Hulk vs Thor again, I guess I thought Thor hit something much bigger than he did... that didn't have wheels and was on a ramp. Maybe not so much.

Colossus has the clear advantage, being able to toss Wolverine a football field's distance.

Well I'm a Hulk fan, and a fan of the TV show, which I thought was a real classic. The pilot is awesome and has some real suspenseful moments that weren't in the other Hulk movies.

But as good as the performances were, I always thought that Hulk was underwhelming and it amuses me now how nearly everyone seems to have surpassed him in strength alone.

One of several reasons why that TV show was so disappointing to me.

1-The Hulk was not really a character, he was a special guest to provide "action"
2-The Hulk was mute (setting the trend that is still a problem)
3-The show is pretty cheesy
4-The Hulk was a wimp
