Let's say you were at a comic convention, there are lots of different fans but if you were there which would you most likely be...

a "casual fan"?

Meaning you love the medium just as much as everyone, but you probably wouldn't dress up like a certain character. Maybe a shirt with your favorite character on it but nothing more extreme than that.

Or would you be...

a "fanatic"?

Meaning you love the medium so much that you WILL dress up like your favorite character to show everyone there how much you love what it's all about.

Probably casual... my knowledge is limited, but I enjoy everything.

i'm a fan girl, but i don't think there's any female characters costume i'd be comfortable in wearing out in public

although as a joke, when scooby doo came out, we all dressed as the characters. i was shaggy cuz someone already called velma and daphne

The most fanboyish thing I've ever done is wear a towel draped around my neck when I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That's about it. The only times I've ever dared dress as someone in full costume were during Halloween.

So... casual fan.

can't see many admitting being fanatics, DENIAL!

I'm most definitely a casual fan though, my knowledge is waaaaaaaaaaay too limited. But I know I'd have a good time at a comic convention.

By the by, isn't "fan" just an abbreviated form of "fanatic"?

I personally don't think dressing up makes you a fanatic....

you're probably more likely to see fanatics in those simply wearing a t-shirt with a smart line from the comics/films than someone in full costume.

Ditto.

I'd be casual but secretly wish to be an all-out fanatic, although my knowledge is limited. Now I actually would only be comfortable wearing like a Rogue or Batgirl/woman costume. There'd be zero chance of me in a Leia bikini or Wonder Woman outfit.

:pal: This guys joined just to say that! :lmao:

I'm a mix personally. For the premiere of the Dark Knight, I wore his dress shirt with the green tie and purple pants. It still looked casual. People didn't even realize until I pointed it out. I had the shirt untucked and the sleeves rolled up to my elbows. No makeup or anything like that.

I love me some franchises. Spidey, X-Men, Doctor Who, Buffy, but I could never ever see myself dressing as any characters from them. I'm very much a casual fan.

great question.
hmmm i would say I am more on the casual side.I got tons of comics, know alot about them, but also realize that they are fictional characters and don't argue about every little detail associated with them. I also agree that just because you might dress as one really doesnt qualify as being a fanatic. I mean if you go to a Halloween party as a hero that seems to appropriate, but now if you show up to your office dressed as the flash. Then you are bordering on fanatic.I've dressed as a couple usually after a flick has came out like Blade for halloween parties and such and dont think its fanatical.
Plus its beats dressing up as a girl.Somethings not right about a dude dressing up as a babe.hehe
just my opinion as if anyone cared.

isn't this abit of an oxymoron because a casual fan of anything would never join a forum dedicated to such thing.

^ no i dont think so i think you can be a causal fan and be on a forum dedicated to comics. I mean what better way to waste time at work then this.( who needs to do work anyway). Now if you are on a forum instead of going to a party then you might be a fanatic. Hey this is great comedy material instead of you might be a redneck. it could be you might be a fanatic if..... Like instead of buying baby formula you spend it on Xmen#56 you might be a fanatic.hahahah....:cwink:

I've never dressed up for a con, but if I somehow managed to get a hold of some costume or prop that was just totally fantastic and/or original, I might be tempted.

For example, if I had a full-size hollow Dalek, you'd better believe I'd get inside that thing and roam around DragonCon creating havoc.

I like how all the DC geeks are standing in front of a giant CAPTAIN AMERICA.

Look at that fatass Robin
What's sad is that I wouldn't be surprised if that Batman was his dad, and he was forced to wear the Robin costume.
