Have you ever been really excited about a game, but when you finally got a chance to play it, it wasn't as great as you thought it would be?
One game that comes to my mind is Bomberman, Act: Zero. That game disappointed me in ways I never thought possible.
Which games disappointed you?

Halo 3. It's certainly not in the same category as Bomberman, Act: Zero. It was a good game, but it felt rushed. A short campaign, little if any gameplay improvements. Compare the leap from Halo to Halo 2. Then compare Halo 2 to Halo 3.

I'd like to say Gears of War 3, but then, I never had high hopes/expectations for the Gears series at all. Big dumb jocks splattering uninspired alien orcs 'n' trolls has never appealed to me.

Homefront springs instantly to mind, though. I expected more --- *much* more --- from John Milius, one of the greatest screenwriters of all time. Shortest campaign evarrrr, and the notion of North Korea being able to invade, let alone conquer, the US is the silliest story I've ever heard of. Oh wait....they're doing it on the big screen with the Red Dawn remake....

I remember Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars was kind of a letdown for me. The same developers made Battle For Middle-Earth I and II which I still think are some of my favourite games. So I bought C&C 3 since it's by the same devs and found it to be surprisingly boring.

Also, I was very let down by Empire: Total War, not by the gameplay itself (which is awesome), but by the lack of varying units for alot of nations (Great Britain was the only nation that the devs cared about it seemed. Surprisingly?). I looked forward a hell of a lot to play as Sweden, one of the superpowers in Europe, but even Sweden's most famous soldiers historically (both nationally and internationally) from that time period didn't even get into the game. Instead, the only unique unit Sweden got was cavalry from Finland that also were the weakest unique units in the entire game. :/

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. A horrible game after the excellent AC1 and 2. Seriously, it was an utter rehash of AC2 with a smaller world and a story that would give the word "filler" a bad reputation.

After that it's Gran Turismo 5. I still can't understand how creators of the sublime GT1-4 have made this disaster. It has been kinda fixed by billions of patches they've released after launch but my god, that was a disappointing game.

Advent Rising. I was so looking forward to this game a few years ago, then I got it...
It was a buggy mess, with one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.

I also have to add Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I was a huge fan of the RPG format for MUA1 and the X-Men Legends games, and then MUA2 tried to oversimplify it, and wound up dropping some of the more interesting characters in favor of far *less* interesting new characters, and set the whole thing against a very boring backdrop of the Civil War series.

Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows.

Sure, it's an Activision game so it shouldn't have been a surprise that it turned out bad (I mean, terrible). But for this game, I had some hopes. Some of the trailers for this game were pretty epic! And the Vulture boss fight looked awesome! Then I bought the game. Then I played the game. Then I realised how stupid I was.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Really don't care for it, and I loved the previous two.

Yeah I agree! While it's a fun game, it really feels unfinished.

I remember being hyped like hell for Rainbow 6: Vegas thinking it would be like Rainbow 6: Raven Shield. Playing it on Christmas day, it was a stupid Hollywood movie Gears Of War action game. Very dissapointing.

The other major occasion was Metal Gear Solid 2 which I used as an excause to buy a Playstation 2. The game was a mess, you play as a man girl boy and generally wasn't very good. 4 was also pretty bad but I expected it to be so it wasn't a surprise.

Fear 2 was another one, the original fear has probably the best shooting mechanics and AI still to this day. They made the shooting mechanics crap and the AI stupid. It wasn't a good game.

Oblivion is another one, it's one of the worst designed RPG's ever and probably the most over-rated. Having lots of content doesn't mean it's good content. Mass Effect as well, very boring game, struggled to finish it.

After seeing all the praise for Grand Theft Auto 4's scores I was expecting Jesus on a stick. The port was terrible, the gameplay was basically driving around following a line on the map and the social aspect was incredibly boring. Alot of the characters weren't likable either, including the main one.

On a positive note, i'm playing Akrham City on the pc at the moment and that does seem to live up to hype and does improve on Arkham Asylum in pretty much every way possible.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2

I feel similar but they cut out alot of the game. If they had done a re-release with the cut content it would have been so much better.

I'm generally never dissapointed by games because Im really good and judging their quality prior to playing them. I never psych myself up so high that I end up being dissapointed. However a game that I thought would be better(but still enjoyed) was LA Noire. But as I said, I'm too good at judging games to end up being highly dissapointed with them.

^Same here with me, although I highly judged Spider-Man 3 and Superman Returns to be great and fun games and was really disappointed. Never happened with other games, as far as I remember.

I'm pretty dissapointed with Assassins Creed Revelations. It's just so rushed and buggy. I think the developers genuinely wanted to do it for the right reasons but by rushing it they let themselves down.

They should have shelved it and spent the next two years making Assassin's Creed 3 if they were so determined to beat the 2012 deadline.

I was willing to suspend my belief over that if the game still had a solid and engaging story, but it failed on that front as well. It had a few decent moments that I'm recalling now as I write this, but it still wound up being a letdown.

Halo 2's ending was a massive letdown as well, but the overall experience and multiplayer more than makes up for it.

I thought Halo 2's ending was fine. I thought the storytelling, and the way they told that ending was weak. But, the ending itself and it being a cliffhanger was fine I thought.

For me, it'd have to be Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It's not that I thought it was a bad game, it was great. I played the Tanker missions a ton of times, and then picked up The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 and then Substance. But, it just wasn't the game I thought it'd be, and on that end it did disappoint me.

Heavy Rain sort of disappointed me as well, with some of the liberties they took in keeping that "twist" afloat.

For the most part, I'm probably in the same boat as Pat. I suppose there's a vetting process I do before getting game. Usually, if I don't think it'll meet my expectations I wind up waiting for a price drop and then get it. Once I get it at that lower price, my expectations adjust as well so I never find myself disappointed at some game sucking.

Alpha Protocol - I mean, yeah the game isnt the greatest visual, but the concept behind creating your own spy had me sold, too bad the game suffered way too many flaws.

Crackdown - For what its worth, its a solid title, but IMO i wanted much more out of the game.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows - This game was a total letdown, the videos served their purpose and really made this game look great, upon playing it, hot mess.

Devil May Cry 2 - still my biggest let down after the amazing action game revolutionizing first game.

Spider-Man 3 - SM2 was the first game I'd ever played where I felt like the hero...the 3rd's sluggish and dulled down webslinging system was the biggest upset for me, not to mention the lame combat system, and horrible quicktime events...among other things.

SW Force Unleashed 2 - I LOVED the demo, it looked like they'd really addressed the issues from the first game. Then the reviews came out and we all learned the wiser.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - promised to be the re-launch to my favorite childhood video game character in glorious 3rd next gen graphics and fix'ns...it was an unfinished, load time plagued, glitchfest mess of a game. Very disappointing.

I agree. From all the trailers and footage shown, it was almost entirely the tanker mission. This included the demo they put out. Then we play some man boy repeating the first game due to robots owning liberty and a man being controlled by a hand or something. Also a black lady uses magic to make rockets go away because she really is lady luck. Wut?

Assassins Creed. Ive expressed my utter dissapointment with that several times in the past

Nanomachines.
