I was just thinking of writing down a list of the smartest. The ones I can think of are (discounting cosmic beings, gods, etc.)

1. Reed Richards
2. :doom:
3. Tony Stark
4. Magneto (Asteroid M, Genetics Machines, etc etc)
5. Kang
6. Nathaniel Richards
7. Hank Pym (I'm honestly curious about this one)
8. Doctor Strange
9. Kristoff (the future belongs to DOOM)
10. The Leader

the leader is above stark I think.strange is a great mind above the puny humans on the list.kang, yes and no,i think hed be below them all without his time travel abilities.hank pym is smart but hes smart in a select field.magnetos smart but not as smart as them, more of a visionarie.Doom is less intelligent then strange and leader and might be level with reed.

Dr. Doom
Reed Richards
Hank Pym (he invented AI and a shrinking growing potion)
Tony Stark
Bruce Banner
Kang
Leader
Charles Xavier

tatically, i would put cap on that list, one shouldn't ignore battle smart when doing something like this.

also some of those characters may be lower down on the list simply because they don't have the access to some of the material that others do, however it doesn't necessarily make them less smart.

people like dr strange i believe are simply just well read instead of having some massive raw natural intelligence etc...

but i guess this will always be open to intepretation of the question by the poster.

Well my choice of Pym for the list is his fields include robotics, microbiology (or whatever Pym particles would be classified under), entymology, and clearly some pretty good electronics as well.

He's clearly WAY behind Reed, Doom, and the Leader (I'd say Tony too) but that's what frustrates him as without these people he'd be number one by far yet he looks stupid without them.

Magneto I put up there because despite the fact that he's known for anti-human rhetoric, the guy doesn't strike me as the kind of guy whom shops at Villains R Us for his evil lairs. He's got some impressive technology and no sign of a kidnapped scientist.

t'challa is always going to be ignored by the masses though...

I thought it was Wakanda that was the technologically advanced society, T'challa being more like Batman in he's familiar with tech but not an actual inventor.

well wouldn't jor-el technically be a brilliant mind on krpton even though his society is more advanced...

to make the bats comparison, t'challa i think must be fairly bright, or perhaps i'm just making assumptions...i'll have a check of what wikipedia says...

I'm not saying T'Challa isn't smart but I always felt his various degrees were somewhat akin to knowing what his people were talking about and not actually anywhere near the top ten. He's a brilliant mind but he's on the level of several dozen folk rather than the guy building a giant spaceship to the moon.

But I indeed had forgotten his super-intellect.

dr banner deserves to be on this list also, hes a super brain.leader is above most people in the mu.

Modok and Thanos have superhuman intellects according to Marvel.
The extraordinary category includes: Reed, Doom, Magneto, The Mandarin, Apocalypse, The Master, and Maelstrom
The genius category includes: Banner, Shadowcat, Dakimh the enchanter, The Ancient One,and a lot of others.
The Beast is merely gifted and doesn"t even qualify as a genius and Kang/Immortus is only above normal. I don't have the official stats for Stark and Spidey but they are probably only ordinary geniuses officially. My personal opinion is that Parker is an extraordinary genius because he has impressive achievements in multiple fields of science as opposed to Stark with his tech toys and Banner who is only a physicist.

There's Hank McCoy. He dabbles in engineering, loves literature, and seems to be an adept computer programmer (in fact, I think he has multiple PhDs), but his area of expertise lies mostly in biology.

Of course, you've also got your average/low-level geniuses, like Peter Parker & Kitty Pryde.

- Thanos
- Doctor Doom
- Magneto
- Spider-Man

Peter Parker should be on the list... but probably low, compared with some of the others. Anyone else remember that the plan for the New Avengers having Spidey on the team was to make him into a sort of "Ray Palmer/The Atom" character (for those with DC experience) for the team, emphasizing his intellect and scientific knowledge over his powers? Yeah... oh well.

Hank Mcoy
Henry Pym
Reed Richards
Tony Stark
Dr.Doom
Bruce Banner
Charles Xavier
Magneto
Mr.Sinister
Dark Beast
Moira Mactaggert
Sasquatch
Black Panther
Forge

I actually think Doom is smarter than Richards but his ego gets in the way much too often.

forge is cheating, it's part of his mutant ability, it's not iq driven etc....

That's what I thought

Look at the Pro-Registration side. Them.

David Alleyene, he is as smart as anyone else he is around. So I recomend he be put in a room with Dr. Strange, Reed Richards, Mr. Sinister, and Dr. Doom. the three of them are smarter than Doom in their own specific fields, however Doom is needed because he has the knowledge of how to combine all three.

I am pleased to see that no one's list contains editor-in-chief JQ.
;)

Oh, and is the Wizard (winged wizard) supposed to be brilliant in his own way? And Abner Jenkins? Not on Stark's level, but pretty brilliant.
