First off, I'm something of a stickler for truth in advertising and when I see billboards plastered all about town with the familiar silver and black logo with the words "Commitment To Excellent" on it, it makes my head spin. Just focusing on their records following the Rich Gannon f***-up fiasco in the 2003 Super Bowl, these cats have gone on to have one of the worst records in professional football, period. They finished either close to or dead last since then and have become the first NFL team to lose at least 11 games in six straight seasons. I don't give a s*** about the inside politics, the rotating coaching staff, the whole "Al Davis is a *****e" campaign. I just want a simple admission of guilt from these guys and to dismantle that "Commitment To Excellence" logo until they've at least place in the top 10 teams for a single season. I've always compared Raiders fans to abused housewives who maintain the delusion that they can change their abusive husbands. "Oh, you don't know him like I do. I can get him to the Super Bowl". Right. Loyalty is an admirable quality, but so is integrity and I'm not seeing any of it from Oakland. So, they won one pre-season game. I'll break out the champagne and the streamers when they're still playing in late January.

-so sayeth the mastermind-

As long as increasingly senile old coot like Al Davis has an iron grip on the day-to-day operations (who would want to be a head coach knowing that you can't pick your own staff), I fear that the Raiders are going to continue to be bad. It's becoming awfully apparent that the game has passed Al by.

As long as increasingly senile old coot like Old Man Ford has an iron grip on the day-to-day operations (who would want to be a head coach knowing that you can't help pick your own players), I fear that the Lions are going to continue to be bad. It's becoming awfully apparent that the game has passed Billy Clay by.

Fixed.

Ford is an underrated owner. He is greatly respected in the NFL for the way he handles the front office. His biggest problem is his loyalty to his employees (Millen), who can cost him.

I think Ford has found great new leadership for the franchise as it would have been hard for them to do any better to build a future great franchise than what they did this offseason. They made almost every move perfectly.

Suprised they didn't merge this into the nfl thread.

My personal belief is that his son had a heart to heart with him and took some more control. I think hiring Schwartz was a great move. But, only time will tell. Joey looked like a pretty good pick at the time.

Of course he's respected for being loyal, who wouldn't want to work for that dude? Pull down tons of cash to be absolutely awful at your job? Sign me up. I think hiring Millen out of the booth with (that I know of) no front office experience was, well, short-sighted at best.
