Comics who can beat him?

Superman did not died when he fought Doomsday. He power drained and he was in a coma like state so that his powers can be up again. The last time he truely died was back in the early 80s. Lex killed him but was brought back to life by Supergirl and Krypto. Superman died of a total of 7 times but he came back to life each time.

No, Superman actually died when he fought Doomsday. The Eradicator brought him back to life with Kryptonian technology.

What's wrong with J'onn?

Nothing except he's a rip off of Superman, and his weakness is fire. That's the dumbest weakness D.C. could have come up with. Many other characters that had dumb weaknesses like, Wonder Woman being tied up and Storm being claustrophobic have been pretty much forgotten or done away with.

Don't get me wrong he's a powerhouse with varying abilities but he is just under utilized and right now I just don't like him.

He's not a rip off of Superman. They have similar stories, but they're hardly the same. Superman is the orphan. He never knew his people. J'onn is the refugee. He knew his people, and he watched them all die around him. As for fire, it's not that dumb a weakness. And it actually makes sense. Him being a shapeshifter, his physical form is fluid. Intense heat makes it hard to retain a cohesive form, and woyuld eventually kill him.

You're right they aren't exactly the same, but how many Super strong, super fast, flying last of your kind alien beings are there?

Doomsday has killed Superman before, but he's been watered down significantly in recent years.

Darkseid too, was stronger than Superman and his Omega Beams are capable of wiping Superman from existance. But like Doomsday, Darkseid has been watered down quite a bit too.

In a straight fight, the Parasite would beat Superman every time. Of course, the true Parasite (Rudy) was killed off about 5 years ago and his replacement (Alexandra) is very easily defeated (a layer of clothing can stop her in her tracks).

With kryptonite powering him, Metallo has easily pounded Superman into the ground before. Without kryptonite, Metallo can still hold his own, usually with the help of some sort of gimmick (like his Cerberus/indestructible body, or the geo-magnet). Of course, Metallo's robot body has been taken from him recently, and he too is not really much of a threat anymore.

The Atomic Skull had strength on par with Superman, and he originally had invulnerability similar to Superman's when he was first introduced, but that power seems to have been retconned (and now it doesn't make sense that he can take a punch from Superman, but the force of a bullet's impact will take him out ). Unfortunately, the Skull was killed off a few months ago.

There are a number of other members of Superman's own rogues gallery who have a good chance of defeating Superman in a fight, but most of them have been forgotten by the current writers. And it seems that the few more well-known Superman villains who haven't been forgotten and once had a strong chance of beating him (listed above) have been either watered down, killed off, or had their powers taken away.

Of course, there are always the characters who aren't necessary limited to Metropolis who have the potential to single-handedly defeat Superman, such as Dr. Fate, Captain Marvel, the Spectre, Zoom, the Flash, Mordru, and many others.

Good post! I am liking Parastie more and more lately and wish they didn't kill him off. Do you think they'll bring him back? I like the parasite version that you have as your avatar.

There is a possibility that he might come back in Superman/Batman #28 that comes out in a few months.

The synopsis of that issue has Superman and Batman fighting Titano and the Parasite. Of course, it didn't specify which Parasite it was (Alexandra or Rudy), but the guy on the cover with green skin and the orange collar looks an awful lot like Rudy's first form that he had when he originally became the Parasite.

It's not that hard to write a resurrection for him, considering that during the 90's, Rudy demonstrated that he can regenerate from almost anything if he's given enough energy to power said resurrection. If it is Rudy on the cover, in my mind, it's not a matter of how he came back from the dead; it's just a matter of why would he revert back to his significantly less powerful body of Parasite 1.0 instead of Parasite 2.5 (the version in my avatar)?

Maybe, because he was so very injured, his recovering body is considerably less powerful than he normally is, but he is slowly regaining strength.

BTW, anyone have any clue as to who the flaming skull guy is on that cover? I'd guess that it'd be the Atomic Skull, but Joe's face (or lack thereof) has never really resembled that before (flaming hair?).

Clayface couldn't beat Superman. Hell, Clayface can't even beat Batman. Clayface may be a shapeshifter, but he's nowhere near strong enough or tough enough to stand a chance against Superman.

How can Quicksilver beat Superman? He's fast, yeah, but Superman's probably just as fast. And Quicksilver doesn;t have any super strength or anything.

16)Venom

No way Venom could beat Superman. He's nowhere near SUperman's strength class. Plus, he's weak against heat. One blast of heat vision and he's down.

No way Omega Red's beating Superman. Superman's way stronger and way faster.

We haven't seen Batman beat the crap out of Superman "so many times." In fact, we've never seen him beat the crap out of him. He's fought him twice in continuity and one out of continuity. In the out of continuity one, Superman was still recovering from massive injury, and Batman had the aid of Green Arow and Robin and was using billions of dollars worth of tech and decades worth of preperation.

The two in continuity times were in Lex Luthor: Man of Steel and in Hush. In Hush, Batman was fighting a Superman who was fighting off mind control and thus nowhere near his peak ability, and Batman didn't so much beat him as run away from him and not die until he could snap Superman out of it. The other time, Bruce got his ass kicked all over Gotham.
