Superman Returns Who did Routh test against and beat out for the role of Superman

This guy from my city auditioned. He's in a local soap.

and quite a few others I cnat think of at the moment

Thanks Donnie Baseball.

Didn't Chris Carmack, who played Luke on the OC, test for McG. I thought I read that somewhere, Im not sure though.

i don't know if he ever really stood a chance but i was rooting for a guy named Ryan McPartlin (based on looks alone) before Routh came into the picture...

Ohh..great choice....looks the part for sure!

I was hoping for Jared Letto...with 40 more pounds. I think he could have done a good job.

Leto is an LA uber-*****ebag from every account who makes really crappy music made successful by moron girls and confused guys. Plus he's like half a foot shorter than Chris Reeve.

Plus in his more than a decade of being a famous ENOUGH actor he's opened exactly one movie that ended up being any good. And I really don't think he was the reason Requiem succeeded. It was the filmmaking, not the lead performance, and the movie itself is still is a bit overrated in my book. 7/8 out of 10.

it was marlon wayans not him. back on topic: routh looked more supermanish in the test footage than he does with the sprayed his hair. but i'm glad he's the new superman.

That is the worst thing you have ever said of all time, even worse than saying Dumb and Dumber is better than Gattaca.

edited myself...wrong thread.
I think Routh was the best choice.

Henry Cavill got down to the last three for Superman (Returns), Batman (Begins) and James Bond (Casino Royale).

Wow. SO close...yet so NOT close.

i think Cavill would be better off as Hal Jordan.

Their won't be a stand alone GL movie. If GL shows up in a movie, it'll be the live action JLA, and 10 bucks says they use John Stewart to put in some color.

Eddie Cibrian by far would've been a great choice, at least physically speaking... he would've been brilliant

Singer definatly made the right choice whoever Routh beat out for the role.

David Goyer said in an interview a pair of year ago that Ryan Reynolds was one of the final Superman Returns contenders. Take that as you will...

he's The Flash now, or at least he will be if Goyer gets his way. he's better suited for the Flash than Superman anyway.

On the bright side he's only 22 years old. The guy is going to make a HUGE career... if he didn't get cast in any of those it was because of his age...

And considering Goyer said one of the final contenders for SR was Reynolds... it's pretty sure at this point to say that Singer's Superman was directly fought between Ryan Reynolds, Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh... all of them pretty good if you ask me...

hmm.... so those are the final 3.

looking at that set i can see why Routh won the role: he has the height (taller than Reynolds) and can match the good looks Cavill has (Reeve look-alike and all that). the only thing going against him was the brown eyes, which was quickly fixed with contacts.
