This is not a thread that I want to be critical of Brandon Routh, we have enough of those. At the same time, don't come in here and flame me for asking this question.

I don't think this has ever been brought up in another thread, or atleast seriosuly talked about, not that it matters now. But I have alwasy been curious, yet unable, to find out what other actors screentested for the role of Superman. Who was Routh's competition. I know that Singer looked at other test footage from the Ratner/McG/Abrams days, but that was a different take on the character, so how much could he really gauge. And it's not like those tests where taken seriously, the studio wanted a big name anyway. So which actors would Singer have looked at from that era. And what actors did Singer bring in on his own merit. All I know is that Jim Caviezel expressed interest but Singer thought he was to big of a name, which I both agree and disagree with but thats neither here nor there. He was getting to old anyway.

Any REAL information would be appreciated. Thanks.

He edged out both Tom Arnold and Andy Dick.

Matt Bomer, Jim Caviezel, Henry Cavill, and as a joke, the clown from Sandy Collora's awful World's Finest fan film.

Ok buddy thanks for the info, but I was looking for a real f^cking answer. Take your lame ass sarcasm somewhere else.

i don't know if he ever really stood a chance but i was rooting for a guy named Ryan McPartlin (based on looks alone) before Routh came into the picture...

You mean Mike O'Hearn.

But did Jim Caviezel seriously do a screentest?

HAAHAHAH!!! Ok "venom" AHAHA!!

Take a deep breathe......we're all here to have fun........this is just Superman stuff we're talkin about. I'm not here to "troll" or upset anyone.

I know I was the one asking the question here, but there is no way Caviezel actually did a test. I remember reading that he wanted the role, but Singer thought he was to well known, so he wouldn't have wasted his time testing him.

I don't know, I thought he did for McG or Ratner.

Speaking of which, Brendan Fraser, Paul Walker, and Josh Hartnett also tested for the role. Fraser almost nabbed it but walked away from over $30 million, just like Hartnett.

Who did Routh beat out? Everyone else. As to who actually did screentests, I have no idea, I don't care, and I don't think Singer cared either.

Wow, thank you, for that piece of info..........you know, you could have just avoided the thread. A person doesn't HAVE to click and respond on every thread. Anyway, back to the topic.

Burton was f'in mad! Johnny's an awesome actor......but a Superman he is NOT.

Was Hayden Christiansen seriously considered? LOL.

Same with Cavezialeial, or whatever that dou(hes name is. Get over your god-complex, loser.

Really, that steroid dude from WF?

Man....I'd kill to see his screentest.....that way we'd all just have proof of those who (still) say he'd make a good Superman.

****.....maybe it'll be on this monday?

Hasn't Singer said that he was always going to cast an unknown for the role, so I doubt we would know who Routh beat out since there are...unknown. I mean how many people had heard of Routh before SR?

singer said that routh was the only one he even considered. so he didn't really beat anyone out for the role(during singer's turn) because there was no competition. but in the mcg era routh was seriously considered, as were jake gyllenhall, hayden christenson, mike vogel, sam hueghan, and some one else. there was a site i think it was www.superman-v.com and it had the top 6 contenders during the mcg run. matthew bomer and others were ratner's.

I think Matthew Bomer would'a been interesting:

he's a really bad actor. i remember when he was being considered. i watched his soap opera and could see he had the look, but non of the acting chops. he was terrible.

During Singer's time the actors that tested were

Sam Heughan
Eddie Cibrian
Mike Vogel
Daniel Cudmore
Christopher Douglas
Jared Padalecki
Anson mount

and quite a few others I cnat think of at the moment
