Who do you think should retire from music

OK, enough is enough, who do you think should stop making a fool of themselves and pack it all in!

'Start Me Up' sang Mick Jagger in 1981, (he's now 65).
Are 66 year old Paul McCartney's troubles still so far away, or can't he remember that far back?

Should Madonna be dressing like an 18 year-old?

Will Michael Jackson ever 'Beat It?'

Is Elton John 'Still Standing?'

'Yeah, I hope I die before I get old' sang The Who.

Michael McDonald.

No offense to him but if I hear Yah Mo Be There one more time, I'm gonna Yah Mo burn this place to the ground.

I voted Madonna, if only because she's never been that talented and she's finally running out of gimmicks to grab people's attention.

I came really close to voting for Axel Rose, though.

I think Michael Jackson should retire from singing, and make a living writing and producing for others. Today's artists would pay out the ass to have an original song made by Michael Jackson (solving his financial woes), and it'd take him out of the paparazzi's spotlight.

I think rocking is the only thing actually keeping the Rolling Stones alive, so I'm afraid to see them retire.

You... you mean you're one of the people who listens to the new Guns N Roses? I've never met one of you before.

then you must not know alot of people that listen to Guns period. They still sell out concerts just like they did back then. the only deference i see in Axl is the clothing and that he doesn't run around the stage anymore. Any true GnR fan still listens to them? i'm downloading a audience recording concert from 2006 right now.

The Rolling Stones seriously need to give it up.

I've talked to GnR fans who gave up on the band when Axel showed up a few years ago with an almost entirely new group of people. One guy even called them "Axel Rose and the new guys" because he refuses to refer to them as Guns N Roses. But maybe I'm just talking to the bitter ex-fans from the 80s and 90s or something.

Maybe you are. to me new gnr is just as good as old gnr in their own way. Im tired of ex-fans b****ing and whining about Slash not being there. i think the only reason why people hate axl is because of the way he was made out to be in the media.

Freaking Gene Simmons and Kiss.
Those dudes are like what 90? with make-up on??
they were just here last Friday night. Freaking put down the boots and make-up already! How much money do you need Bro?
That dude needs an intervention.

Why? They're live shows are still good, plus they've still got the core of the band up there. If Mick or Keith died, I say yes pack it up, but as long as they can still play, I say keep on playing. Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are important parts too, but Mick and Keith are the real draws, I've only seen them once in '99, but I'd love to see them again.

The new GnR isn't GnR, it's more like a tribute band. I'd love to see Axl and Slash bury the hatchet and tour again, but it probably won't happen (never say never after seeing Van Halen with DLR this summer). Maybe when (if) Chinese Democracy comes out it'll gain this new GnR a little legitmacy, but not holding my breath. That said, still love listening to the old stuff, they are the perfect example of a band that got too big too fast and couldn't handle it. Appetite is probably one of the best albums of all time.

As for who I think should pack it up, Madonna or Cher, both sucked then and still suck now.

Tobey Keith, Madonna, Britney Spears (I mean she cannot sing for ****), anybody that was popular 20-30 years ago and is now back, and Mariah Carrey.

Yeah, they should probably pack it up too. Yeah, it's fun to see them once for the show they put on, but that's about it, most of their songs aren't even that great. Funny, I was wearing my "Farewell Tour" t-shirt the other day while doing laundry and noticed it was from 2000, I've seen them with other bands twice since then and it's still being promoted as the Farewell Tour, I don't even think they were the headliners.

By "It" do you mean fame? if you are that statement is wrong on so many levels. nobody left because they couldn't handle it. Steven was fired for not being able to play. Izzy left because he didnt like the touring. Duff sobered up and started a family. Slash left because Axl replaced his parts on a song with Paul Tobias'. Matt just left.

But i can live with your first statement, not as bad as when people dont even give em a chance and just say they suck.

Well Britney Spears should if only for her own health and that of her family, but Madonna. She probably has the most media presence of any of those acts, and has put out nothing but crap for more than a decade.

People like the Who, McCartney, Rolling Stones, etc. aren't doing anything new, but they also aren't bothering anyone and pretty much still perform so that you can go see the Who play their classics or whatever. And despite Michael Jackson's problems, he can still put out decent music if he tries.

Madonna is musically irrelevant, and is artificially maintained as a fashion/trend icon because the media wants her to be one. At most she should just have a Vegas show like Celine Dion. She could get all the money and fawning over her that she wants, and she can become enshrined icon of the past.

Britney Spears should retire period...no clauses attached.

Oasis.

- Liam's singing has gone really bad - it was never a spectacular voice, but he used to be able to sing with a lot more balls.

- You always hear Noel on about how the next album is 'like Definitely Maybe', or 'more like before', because he knows that they peeked on their second album. You still get the odd gem (not the guitar player :o), but the actual albums are pretty poor as a whole, with a lot of the songs sounding like a parody of the old classics.

- I said Oasis, not the individuals, because I'd like to maybe get a Noel acoustic album, maybe.

- But Oasis are doing nothing now apart from dying very, very . . . slowly.

Makes me sad to say it, being a Manc, but it's the truth.

R.I.P.

I wish I could say Britney Spears but I still got a soft spot for her (how lame does that sound :o) So it would be Axle rose for me I just cant stand him, at all.

Oasis is still around?!?! I thought they left the game years ago. I remember them having a few hits my freshman and sophmore year of college 10 years ago, but that's about it.

I have to say that while I don't really care much about the new GnR (but maybe Chinese Democracy will change my mind), I actually came to like the old GnR songs (particular their brilliant Appetite for Destruction album) more than back in the 80's (I used to like Bon Jovi more than GnR :whatever:). But now, both Sweet Child of Mine and Welcome to the Jungles are on my favorite song list.

To answer the OP question, my vote goes to Gene Simmons and Kiss, Rolling Stones, and other bands that should be in retirement homes.

Thank you for reinforcing my point :cwink:

To quote Kurt Cobain on Guns & Roses.

AD: Is there anything about Guns N’ Roses’ music you like?

KC: I can’t think of a damn thing. I can’t even waste my time on that band, because they’re so obviously pathetic and untalented. I used to think that everything in the mainstream pop world was crap, but now that some underground bands have been signed with majors, I take Guns N’ Roses as more of an offense. I have to look into it more: They’re really talentless people, and they write crap music, and they’re the most popular rock band on the earth right now. I can’t believe it.
