Who had the best showing at E3/Who had the worse

It's pretty much understood that Nintendo had the best showing. I personally judged the exhibition on how much each booth attracted people. And Nintendo was fortunate in having the longest lines in E3 history. That says it all. I mean, whether or not some of us on the internet may not have cared for their showing, it cannot be denied that people were stampeding across the showroom floor to the Nintendo area. By default, that type of anticipation has to be rewarded with "the best showing at E3."

That can be attributed to the simple fact that Nintendo had the element of curiosity on their side. Just because Nintendo had the longest lines at E3 does not exactly mean that they had the best games or the best showing. People were anxious to try out Nintendo's latest hardware, get a feel for the unique experience...as that press conference already seemed to have them pumped up quite a bit. Honestly speaking, if I were at E3, I too would have rushed to take the Wii for a test drive the first chance I'd get as soon as I hit the show floor.

Sure, I can go with that. But I have to add that every videogaming platform had something to unveil at E3, something to inspire curiosity. After all, it's E3. Accordingly, "curiosity" isn't necessarily an advantage. It's just that Nintendo was able to inspire more curiosity than the rest, and it lead to a better overall showing.

You're right. But the games alone do not make up a showing. A HUGE part of a showing is the experience: atmosphere, attitude, energy, comfort, creativity, etc. Nintendo was more successful in reflecting the unique experience with Wii on the showroom floor.

That said, I personally feel that Nintendo featured more fun and better games at E3.

Nintendo had the advantage of having both new software and hardware playable at the show, as opposed to it's competitors primarily showcasing software only. You're right that Nintendo was able to inspire "more curiosity" than the rest, but try understanding the reasons for that increased curiosity and you'll get my point. And if Nintendo really had the best games of the show, then all those collective journalists and game critics who consistently ranked Wii as the Best Hardware of the show wouldn't have overlooked extending the same courtesy to the Wii's best games such as Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess or even Metroid.

You're right. But the games alone do not make up a showing.

That's the last thing I expected to hear from a Nintendo supporter.

I wasn't there and neither were you. I honestly couldn't fathom how anyone can possibly quantify the atmosphere, attitude, energy, comfort, creativity...all those things at the showroom floor just by looking at a video.

That much is debatable, as I maintain there were a host of other titles such as Bioshock, Gears of War, Spore, Crysis, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect that appeared to be even more impressive than Nintendo's biggest Wii titles.

Huh? Why?

It's all business, and its Nintendo's job (along with Sony and Microsoft's) to pitch and sell their product to the consumers. And of the three, I think its obvious that Nintendo did so with more success and style than the others. And that's why, from an objective point of view, I think Nintendo had a better "showing."

But even if I had to judge from the games, I would still go with Nintendo. LOZ:TP alone won me over; it's likely going to be the best game of all time. But like you said, it's definitely debatable.

I wasn't there and neither were you. I honestly couldn't fathom how anyone can possibly quantify the atmosphere, attitude, energy, comfort, creativity...all those things at the showroom floor just by looking at a video.

I didn't go, but both my older brother and uncle (who works for Sony) did attend. The gave me a vivid description of the events and provided me with some footage. I was as close as I could get to E3 without actually being there.
