Who Is The Hype's Smartest Poster?

(smile)

I disagree.

two points:

1. Even the extremely intelligent have hobbies and interests that they like to share with others.

2. Yet to meet any human who doesn't crave community with like-minded folk.

Peace.

I work with some people who are of THAT level of intelligence. Their hobbies include working on nearly unsolvable math problems, building and operating ham radios, and trying to develop new computer languages based on philosophical bents they've helped study and devise. They do hang with people of like minds, though, no doubt about it. Granted, not every person of monster levels of intellect is of that particular flavor. They're as diverse as anyone else in their interests. And I know plenty that run their mouths off like nobody's business, so perhaps they ARE here amongst us and just as talkative as anyone else on these boards. ;)

Not necessarily. Think of it like this though, Chris Langan, who I posted a thread about a while ago has 195 IQ. One of his big talking points is that CEO's "are a bunch of dumb guys who think they are smarter than the smart guys", meanwhile his theories are pretty standard, and while well presented, are ultimately not worth the paper they're printed on. He's a bouncer by trade, and profoundly arrogant.

Now, while he's perfectly right to criticize some CEOs and some of this nation's successful, success is ultimately a good indicator of someone's intelligence. Maybe that CEO comes up with a 105 on his IQ test, but you can bet your ass he used every last bit of that 105 to get him where he was. Just like an athlete. Potential can be gauged simply by looking at someone's body structure, but if they spend all day eating hoe-hoes on their couch, that potential isn't worth much. Same principle applies here. They proved a long time ago that the IQ test was bunk, even the creator said that the test wasn't meant to measure intelligence and that the score (contrary to what's reported) could be improved upon until one got a perfect score.

I don't think it's any accident that those who do well on IQ tests deal day to day with theorems and problems as hard or harder than the one's on the test. I did very well on mine, but ironically at College I was taking a very hard Calc class at the same time where the teacher was an absolute a**hole about grading. Did I do well because I was naturally gifted, or was it really because I had homework ten times harder that night. I tend to think the latter.

IQ tests are only good for the first try at best for that reason, and then they are only testing certain problem solving skills which could have been trained earlier. i would class using what you've got to the best of your ability as one of those other talents i was talking about.

We had quiet a few guys at our office/shop who claimed to have high intelligence levels. Some, apparently, who even had near perfect scores on their SATS. Funny thing was many of them, while obviously very good with math and mechanics, were just lazy good for nothings. We've had to fire more than our fair share of them.

there's no colloration between intelligence and business success as far as i know. i think success in business requires other talents.

I disagree.

What I said:

"This appears to be the case my entire life. You'll notice that the extremely rich and powerful who got there outside of the public view prefer privacy above everything else and rarely step up into the light unless they have no choice (as in the alternative is worse.)."

What I mean:

Those who make it from nothing w/o having or needing public approval or support to become rich and/or powerful have to be intelligent.

Success in business like Bill Gates for example who reads pretty slimey in his start where it is underlined that he got by on the brains of others is not what I meant.

Was Edison an idiot? Even though he used a think-tank and claimed most of the inventions as his own,... there is no doubt he was intelligent and kept to himself. Most of what private life he has on record surfaced after he died.

Too absolute to not see that in some cases business success is tied to the intelligence of the guy on top.

Peace.

Yeah, I know a couple that like to talk about their MENSA participation, blah, blah, blah. The majority of them are just too busy doing all this braniac stuff to be bothered with bragging about it, though. I do know of one that got canned BECAUSE he was spending more time working on his little pet projects than his work, though. Haha!

that's the same Edison who put on a show of killing an elephant using a competing electricity system. really i'd have to look into his life more to get a proper impression of if he was a lime light seeker or not tho.

The smartest poster is none other than....

Mr Parker!

Intellect has a small place in this means of communication...

What would be a better analysis would be to see which posters are best at putting across their points of view backed up with sufficient evidence/reasoning. The best posters manage to do this (and wait for it) without any bias or at least acting without bias.

Over my four years on this place Guyverjay is one poster who's post I take as Law. I can say the same about X (sometimes).

Outside of comics, another poster i generally don't question is Daisy. OUtside of politics i could also say Paladin although his sort of speech is more wisdom based.

Everyone else worth mentioning is perhaps only knowledgeable over a small area of expertise or perhaps completely stupid.

To finish on, there is an underrated tale in becoming a hype legend, an internet personality and probably Holly has managed this better than anyone. Even though i don't particularly like her, i have to respect that she incredibly clever at what she does. But she likes X-men

How do you define "smart" or "intelligent"? Is someone who is booksmart but not "streetsmart" more intelligent? Is someone who is very successful in life but with only HS education less smart than a person who is struggling in life but with a college degree? Is intelligence measured by our grades at school or the choices that we make?

Another point I didn't expect to surface,.. Props.

I've also met people who are the lynch pin of whatever they are involved in,... and they hold the dual roles of being both subordinate and "less intelligent" than those in charge because they didn't go to "certain schools.

Intelligence for me on baseline is the ability to think.

I knew illiterates in the Coast Guard who could do everything - but pass a written test.
Up to and including giving lectures on the stuff they couldn't get past with paper and pencil.

I suppose you could define intelligence by how you present yourself to the world,... Or by how much you know, Or by how much education you have, or as you said,... "the choices you make".

Peace.

Now we're starting to peel back the subjectivity of the word "intelligence", here. It, ultimately, is going to mean something different to everyone, I'm going to guess.

I think the fact that Stephen Hawkings refuses to take an intelligence test should tell you something about the intelligence test. I think the fact that the creator of the IQ test, Alfred Binet, said that the test was never meant to measure a quantifiable intelligence score, should also say something.

AH!
Now I see...
This thread is not about who is the smartest

It’s about whose nicer to everyone
Who treat people well!
All and all…
It’s about who is the biggest butt kisser.

I don’t have too agree with most of you!
I don’t have to like what you like!
In fact…I Diamondhead has no need for you at all!

Just like Superman has really no need to team up with the Batman
But from time to time some nitwits from the comics industries
Will go around the rules to make it look like as if

You okay,... you kind of cut that off in mid thought......?

People who are saying this are usually jealous of Bill Gates or Donald Trump

Trust me if you are as smart as you think you are
Then making money will be like drinking a glass of water when you are very thirsty.

Why did he do it?

What was he selling?

Are you going to put the sensitivities of TODAY on the mores/actions of yesteryear?

Peace.

he was selling his own brand of electricity as being a safer alternative ofcourse.

it was less about the sensitivities of today and more about the show.

"As if”
Never hear about that expression?
You should know better than me since I never attended an English school
English is not even remotely my second language
But I seem to manage better than most of you.

No man! I’m not having a heart attack!
