Who remembers seeing the Ninja Turtles movie in theaters?

People really tend to overestimate the "darkness" of that first volume sometimes. The Daredevil comics that it satirized were darker. The first movie is pretty much beat for beat a faithful adaptation of the first arc of the Mirage series so I don't get how it could feel kiddified.

Matter of fact I remember being in kindergarten and some of my peers at my school back then telling me their parents felt that it was "too dark" since it wasn't a replication of the cartoons. I'd give you the sequels save TMNT but I don't see how someone could view the original movie as more "Fred Wolf cartoon" than "Mirage comics" at all.

Yeah, I read the comics (more recently) and while it's mature, some fans made it as if it's friggin' super dark when it's not. It still had a silly tone to it.

I rewatched the first one couple of years back. In the campfire scene when the turtles summon Splinter through the blue fire...

I cried.

It's a powerful scene. That's what makes it a great movie. It's funny and entertaining, but it's still pretty mature, smart and emotionally deep.

Awesome gif. The martial arts were actually pretty good looking back at it. Better than some other comic book franchise that shall remain unnamed but i think we all know what i'm talking about :ninja:

Actually I watched it again too and the martial arts wasn't too bad.

Sadly I didn't see it in theaters, I was 2 when it came out. I watched it religiously on VHS as a kid though, definitely a childhood treasure of mine.
