Who remembers seeing the Ninja Turtles movie in theaters?

I remember when it came out, but for some reason I didn't go to see it, I got ahold of a bootleg video of it though, and watched it a lot, don't know why I didn't go to see it at the cinema, maybe I got the bootleg before it was released, so didn't bother going to the cinema.

But aye, I was into the cartoon at the time, and there was a pal of mine in my year at school who was got into the cartoon and would talk to me about it, and I always remember him being really thrilled when I told him about the movie poster showing up in my comic-books.

Actually, I think that guy lent me the bootleg tape, and i copied it, so maybe he got an advance copy before it came out.

I'd like to see it again, I don't remember anything about the film at all, only recall enjoying it at the time.

It's probably nigh on impossible to find legally now. But there is certain ways... :ninja: I could get hold of it and be watching it in about 10 minutes.

My favourite scene has gotta be when Raph comes out of the cinema, takes out a couple of purse snatchers and has his first encounter with Casey Jones.

"Cricket? You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket"

BOOM

"Six runs!"

:awesome:

For a so called kids film it's actually pretty dark and deals with some pretty mature themes. Like how Shredder is basically a cult leader, who preys on the youths rebellious nature against their parents, manipulating them by pretending he loves them but really he just uses them.

And the characters are really well characterised and developed.

It's a genuinely great film, and it surprises me when i rarely see it on peoples favourite comic book movie lists.

Man I remember it like it was yesterday. Going to that United Artists theater in the broken down Times Square from the pre-Giuliani era and then going straight to pizza hut right after. Fond memories of Secret of the Ooze too cause it was the first time that I saw 2 movies at the flicks in one day (the other being Out For Justice).

I was nine, and the theater in my neighborhood was offering a promotion where we had to stand in line for the 10:00AM show, and we would only pay two dollars. I woke my dad up at 7:00 that Saturday morning, it was raining, and the line was long as hell. The theater was at the far end of the neighborhood shopping center, and the line stretch halfway down the length of the shopping center. As you can imagine, that 10:00am show sold out pretty fast. So we just went a later show. And I'm not ashamed to admit, when Splinter told Danny, "All fathers care for their sons", I looked at my dad and smiled.

...my dad took me to see the first movie on opening day, and i still vividly remember getting to the theater to see a cardboard sign in the box office window and in a black sharpie marker it said the movie was sold out. i was so bummed. but my dad drove real far to another theater and we got in...

I had almost the same experience: we got to the theater & saw that it was sold out & my dad did the whole pat-on-the-back, "aw, next time, kiddo" sort of thing and as we walk off he pulls 2 tickets out of his pocket like he'd "forgotten" that he'd picked them up them earlier. Pretty cool dude, my pops.

...Oh yes i remembered being surprised when Ralph said "Damn" the first time.

Man I remember being wide-eyed at that. Funny. A total Butthead moment, like "whoa!" Also when Mike and Don are watching "Tortois and the Hare" and Mike's telling the tortois, "Just ninja-kick the damn rabbit!"

Lots of adult humor I didn't get at the time, like the "Grapes of Wrath" reference or Raph's retort to Casey, re: the game of cricket. It's my favorite exchange, even though I had no idea what he was talking about:

Raph: "Cricket? Nobody undertands cricket! You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!"

Casey: "I'll teach you."

THWACK! Raph goes flying (or at least that's how I recall it).

I remember. HUGE lines to see this one. And, I also remember, and still have, a Ninja Turtle stuffed toy the theater was giving out. I ended up getting Leo. Which is OK, he's my second favorite Turtle behind Raphael.

I do!

I had the biggest crush on Judith Hoag(April) when I was a kid. I remember being so pissed when she kissed Casey Jones!

LMAO

I was 5 years old when the first movie came out. I remember my brother, who was around 8 or 9 at the time, had the movie poster on his bedroom wall. It used to scare the crap out of me at night.

Are you crazy?

Yeah, Leo I'm crazy, okay. I'm looney, Okay!

Why?

Why, oh, I don't know. Maybe I wanted to a little redecorating. A couple throw pillows, a TV news reporter, what do you think?

Loved Ninja Turtles as a kid. I was lucky cause my mom was a manager at a Toys R Us so I had damn near everything Turtles related, including Toys R Us' promotional material (posters, standees, etc). 20 odd years later, I have no clue where any of those things are, unfortunately.

Saw the first two films in theaters, then watched them about every day at home while wearing my turtle costume, lol.

Did anyone else go to the Turtles Coming Out of their Shell concert?

I was a fan of the comic so when the cartoon came out I was deeply disappointed. I wasn't a fan of the kidifying of the series...I went to the movie in hopes of seeing the Turtles I knew and loved...nope.
I then realized that I'd never see that version of the Turtles again.

Watch Turtles Forever. If you haven't already.

i havent...is it on Netflix???

I saw all 3 in theaters. In fact I went willingly to part 3 but it sucked so bad and I had to end up taking my younger cuz to see it a couple days later.

I was extremely young, and it was freakin' memorable as hell. There was alot craze about the film hitting theaters at the time. I imagine it was on par with Superman (1978), Batman (1989), Spiderman (2001) and The Dark Knight (2008).

After TMNT came out, I became a life-time fan. And so did my fellow class mates apparently. :woot:

No, unfortunately BUT my mom bought me the VHS for Christmas. In fact, I still have it lurking somewhere in storage next to my Power Rangers (or Batman -- can't be sure) merchandise and my old game systems (Super Nintendo, N64, Dreamcast, Gameboys, Saturn, Playstation, etc).

I was 2 when the movie came out in theaters so I saw the first movie when I was 5 and instantly fell in love

I remember watching the film when I was around 8 years old with my parents and my 4 year old brother (second film I've watched on the big screen, the first was Ghostbusters 2). I also had the soundtrack on cassette tape; Ya Kid K, Partners in Kryme, Spunkadelic etc, and I still listen to the tracks on my iPod.

I recently discovered that Ya Kid K was actually female....

I was a HUGE fan of the Turtles when I was a kid. I was poor though, so I played with the PEZ dispensers of them lol.

People really tend to overestimate the "darkness" of that first volume sometimes. The Daredevil comics that it satirized were darker. The first movie is pretty much beat for beat a faithful adaptation of the first arc of the Mirage series so I don't get how it could feel kiddified.

Matter of fact I remember being in kindergarten and some of my peers at my school back then telling me their parents felt that it was "too dark" since it wasn't a replication of the cartoons. I'd give you the sequels save TMNT but I don't see how someone could view the original movie as more "Fred Wolf cartoon" than "Mirage comics" at all.

I rewatched the first one couple of years back. In the campfire scene when the turtles summon Splinter through the blue fire...

I cried.

Went to see it but, we got there late. So, they let us watch the end, then stay and watch the beginning. KInd of a messed up way to watch a movie, but we enjoyed it.

I saw TMNT 1 and II both at the theatre! I was obsessed with the first movie as a kid. I think I was 11 or 12 then. My mum took my brother and I to the first one, Dad took us to the 2nd. Great memories! :woot:

First movie I ever saw in the Theater. I was 9 at the time.
