It looks like Martin Campbell will not return for Green Lantern 2, so who do you think should direct the sequel?

Now that all the exposition is out of the way, I think there's room for a truly great sequel. Unfortunately, they probably won't get anyone too respectable considering how poor the critical reception is. Also, someone with experience with large-scale special effects and action sequences wouldn't hurt.

How about Gore Verbinski?

I'd like to see Kevin Smith make a comeback. If anyone should be able to do a comic book, it should be him. Then again, he probably can't pull it off. Hmm... hard to say who's right for the character. What you need is someone like Favreau or Singer who can establish something great for one or two films; and that would then be laying the "pipe work." The only pipe work Campbell laid was right up my backside. :cwink:

Peter Hyams. I wanted him to do the first.
He's done a bunch of space-themed films, and I think that makes him right.

Warner will mostly get a low-profile director anyway, or someone who's not known for making quality films. Instead of McG, Brett Ratner, and those alike, they might as well pick Hyams for the job. Do I have a point here?

No one. It doesn't deserve a sequel.

But... maybe someone like Abrams or Jones. People who actually know what they're doing when it comes to sci fi.

How about Johnathan Nolan, and he should do a direct sequel continuing the story of Hal Jordan, and showing Sinestro as the main villian

I would suggest JJ Abrams but that's really doubtful.

Terry Gilliam would be absolutely amazing. He'd help bring the GL mythos to the fore and make it a proper space fantasy.

Warner won't see Gilliam as a safe investment, because all his films are commercial disasters. But other than that, it could be cool.

True. Personally they should go down the Superman route.

Take pitches from various people regarding this but ideally in get in a powerful producer who can lend significant strength to the production of the film and take things from there.

Someone like David Heyman would be ideal if he get on board Steven Kloves to adapt a story that DC come up with through their writing team.

JJ Abrams, Duncan Jones, or Darren Aronofsky.

I really think that we won't have any SEQUEL, but if it could be made I would like Gore Verbinski to direct it...

Bryan Singer... One person told me that the reason Superman Returns didn't meet expectations was because Singer is actually better at handling a large cast of characters, which is why the X-Men films, Usual Suspects and Valkyrie were considered good films.

Green Lantern would be perfect for Singer. He has experience in sci-fi superheroes. Hell, he's even a fan of Star Trek! And since he's still under contract from WB, maybe he's the best choice!

PETER HYAMS!!!! NOBODY understand that he will be the best choice!

The thing is, if WB ever goes forward with GL2, they'll want a reliable or safe director who's experienced with large scale, CGI heavy filmmaking (which Campbell didn't quite satisfy). On the other hand, they'll want a director who has some clout but isn't too expensive or difficult to work with. Hyams has some CGI experience, but when was the last time you saw A Sound of Thunder? Horrendous special effects, and the film was a box-office disaster. ($2M worldwide gross against a $50-80M budgeted film.)

If Wrath of the Titans performs as well as its 2010 predecessor, then I could see someone like Jonathan Liebesman doing this. Or someone like Michael Apted, a good work-for-hire director, but the quality of his films depend a LOT on the scripts. (Apted isn't the kind of director who can elevate a mediocre script like Spielberg can.) And more potential candidates I can see being courted to replace Campbell: Wolfgang Peterson, Mike Newell and Rupert Wyatt.

I second this.

Warner won't go for a expensive high-profile director for the sequel/reboot. They can't risk afford that. A director that can be attached to the project without making fuss about artistic stuff, just doing a "formula A" movie, would be the right one.
And Peter Hyams has enough of experience for this. End of Days was not a small project, was it?

kosinski isn't a high profile director. He's made one high profile project that did relatively well, but he's been sort of off the radar since then. I think he would be perfect for this. the design of his tron suits are perfect for green lantern imo.

I'd love to J.J. Abrams take a shot at it, however it's highly unlikely given the full plate he has right now. Brad Bird & Joseph Kosinski are both good choices as well.

J.J.Abrams would be neat, but i doubt that'll happen, wishing him to make a GL movie is like wishing for Peter Jackson to make an Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogy, t's never gonna happen

Brad Bird or someone who knows how to direct a movie with lots of Green Screen CGI effects in it.

Brad Bird seems a good shout with M:I4 getting great reviews, and he has experience with effects. I think someone who would be cheap and could possibly do a good job is David Twohy.

how about david yates? he's already in with WB after the harry potter movies. He said he wasn't up for another blockbuster after Deathly Hallows, but then he turned around and started talking about a Doctor Who movie, so he might not be as adverse to another franchise.
