Why are blu rays (still) so expensive?

This has been bugging me for a while. I have started a blu ray collection, mostly anime so far, and I find that they're pretty fairly priced. The first season of Attack on Titan (DVD Blu ray combo) is going for 24.99 on Amazon, which seems perfectly reasonable.

But movies and most TV series are ridiculously expensive. Are there really people who want the Lego Movie for 24 bucks?

True Detective, which I actually would like to own is going for 40-45.

What is up with these prices?

Just inflation coupled with the fact the most advanced and popular version of watching something at home will always be the most expensive.

Yeah...just wait on it. It'll eventually go down in price. Or you can check out 3rd party vendors and see if it's any cheaper.

I remember paying 40$ for movies on VHS... if anything price is going down!!!

seen blu rays at Target and other places for 10.00 or less, do know if you wait awhile the prices goes down

Damn man, when was that?

The days when Tanin and I would stalk the mighty titanotherium across the frosted plains in order to bring meat back to our tribe on Hill On Gray Rock, so we might survive the long night when the fire in the sky burned cold. When you would have to wait almost half a year after a movie left the theatres entirely to get it on VHS, and even then they would only release rental copies (which cost $100 or more in some cases), and you would not be able to buy an owner's version until another 4-8 weeks after the rental tape release date.

I dont think Blu Rays are that expensive. I mean nowadays on Amazon for around $25 you get Blu Ray/DVD/and a digital copy. I think that's kinda a bargain

It'll go down once DVDs go the way of the VHS. DVDs are still around and on stands.

If you are going to thank piracy for anything, do so for knocking down movie prices and having them come to home video sooner.

I only buy Blu-rays that I really want to own and will watch more than once.

Sure, I would pay a little extra money for good bonus features etc. but not for a DVD copy and digital copy too. I have no use for them.

I've found that with Disney Blurays, the best time to get them for a low price is within the first week because a lot of stores price them on sale opening week. That's what I have to do especially with Disney and Marvel, and getting my MCU collection.

When it comes to other Blurays, I usually wait a month, and usually Best Buy or Target has a sale where a lot of recent releases are like $10-12, which really isn't bad for a new Bluray/Dvd/Digital Copy combo.

I've seen Blu-Rays for as little as $5 but they are usually the crappy movies no one saw anyways.

And to trump Tanin, I remember when E.T. came out and was $100.

Pair that with free shipping, (which I think the minimum amount is at $25) and Amazon's my go to Blu shopping experience. While altogether the price tag was a bit, I bought most of the Marvel films and a few horror favorites, a bunch were sets, in one swoop a few years back for $10.00 and under…They're (amazon and their marketplace) seems reasonable compared to other online vendors…I think.

…If you're going for collector's, special, etc…yeah…that's expensive…I usually wait a couple years, if I can, and I've bought a lot of collector's editions new and used dirt cheap…some sellers probably don't know what they got…until after they sell em…

I mean, I'm sure it's a good movie... I have just bought DVD trilogies for that kind of money.

Is it out of print? Prices might be due to OOP status.

…as good as the film is…I payed 24 bucks for the Lego movie once and that's the theaters…never again…

Just came out.

For some reason I was thinking a film for that price, I would agree…for a TV series, that seems the normal price tag which isn't as big a deal to me… That's me though…

Lego movie $24

Are we talking the same Lego film that was critically acclaimed and made a killing at the box office? Why wouldn't that film be priced at 24$? Under 24$ is reserved for Box office flops that they know people won't pay premium price over and old films.

Bear in mind you can get the DVD for 12 bucks.

Or illegally in a minute for nothing.

Avengers is still selling for $28 or more (Canadian mind you) at Best Buy up here. I guess it's a supply and deman issue.

It's honestly no secret. You just have to keep your eye out for the deals. I picked up True Detective for $29.99 on Amazon.com when they price matched Best Buy but those deals only last so long. You can't just show up whenever it is most convenient for you and expect to find the best deal you can. A majority of my Blu-ray collection I have gotten great deals on and it comes from patience and research.
