Ok after this story, this hospital for peoplke in Miami is Jackson memorial, is in a horribly bad neighborhood, like theres a rape, amurder almost every 4 hours acording to latest stats. Why are hospitals built in bad neighborhoods.

Umm, Jackson isn't really close to any neighborhood. It is close to the county jail and the courthouse and downtown. And to answer your question, these hospital have been in these neighborhoods well before the areas started to decline. Back before the days of corporate enterprise and gentrification, these hospitals were the pillars of the community. Most hospitals that are built nowadays closer to the suburbs and growing communites to handle the boom.

Yeah, I go there almost every week, its in a nieghborhhod, theres apartments right across the street and houses a couple blocks down.

Hospitals are in bad neighborhoods because property values are cheaper in bad neighborhoods.

Why do you think there are so many businesses in poor neighborhoods owned by people that live in the suburbs? They're not stupid, they know they can get them to spend their money and be a safe distance away.

It's actually more an office building with apartments that are used mostly by employees at jackson and cedars. But that's not the point. Most old hospitals were built ina time when "ghettos" weren't staples in every city. The hospital you mentioned (Jackson) was buillt in 1918. You mean to tell me that allapattah(the section of miami where jackson is) was a baaaaad neighborhood in 1918? Not to be rude, but this thread is pointless. Hospitals up until the late 80s, were looked at as the pillars of their community. SO THE HOSPITAL CAME BEFORE THE NEIGHBORHOOD WENT BAD! As neighborhoods declined, hospitals....really hospital employees have remained in these facilities to service the community. And as i stated before, if you notice, most new hospital are in areas of new growth. If your point is to say that big businesses keep hospitals opened in bad areas to make money, then i'd say that's not true. In the world of managed care, it's not profitable to have a healthcare facilty in a bad neighborhood, bc statistically the residents tend to have insufficient or no health insurance.
