I LOVE the comic-to-movie adaptions but why are the fight scenes so terribly done?

Examples of poor comic book fight scenes:

  1. Daredevil: It looked sooo stiff and slow. The play fight with electra had comedy but thats it.
  2. X-men: Wolverines scenes except for some parts in X2 seemed soo boring and simple. It was like I was watching an old Bonanza episode waiting for the waitress to crack a bottle over the head of a guy watching the fight. It seemed that Wolive knew like 2 years of judo and that's it.
  3. Fantastic Four: Did they fight?
  4. Spiderman: some of the earlier ones had some decent fight scenes but the later ones ugly.
  5. Many more but its late here :P
I was watching the martial arts flick Ninja Assassin and that was like perfect comic book fight scenes. I mean replace the main Dude with Wolverine and you have Frank Millers Wolverine graphic novel right there DONE!

I know this is the Marvel section but the fight scenes in Batman Begins were a mess. Except for the first one which serves as an introduction of the chartacter.

Are you refering to Batman's first night out or the training fight with Ducard/Ra's?

I think you just like martial arts movies more.theres nothing really wrong with fight scenes in comic books

just off the top of my head

hellboy vs prince newwata (hellboy 2)
nite owl and rorschach vs ozymandias(watchmen)
any fight scene with big daddy or hit girl(kick-ass)
fight scenes from blade

theres obviously more but I'm not gonna sit here putting em all down in post.far as ninja assassin goes.I thought it was cheesy and overly cgi.you wanna see a real martial art film.watch ip man starring donnie yen

it is a matter of opinion and often left to the skill of the director.

To date, my all time favorite fight sequence in a comic book movie is the Train Fight in Spider-Man 2.

My favorite is still the end fight in Iron Man 1 with the end fight in TIH close behind. I can watch chop-sockey bull**** anyday(which I find incredibly boring). I watch superhero movies because they can show fight scenes that CAN'T happen in other action movies.

I think its because they tend to get directors who are known for drama and story-telling rather than action, this has been mostly evident in the Iron Man films were I thought the action was terrible, but the drama and character scene's were so well done, especially in IM1, it didnt really matter.

There some amazing comic-book movie action scene's out there though, and the one's in Thor and First Class were pretty damn decent.

The X-Men movies had cool fight scenes!

Watch Wolverine/Mystique fight and tell me that was a good fight scene.

Juggernaught is finally shown and he runs into a couple of walls and thats it.

The wolverine fight against Stryker troops in X2 was pretty good.

Gambit/Wolverine fight terrible

Cloned Deadpool/Wolverine fight terrible

Toad+Sabertooth fight/ Cyclops + Storm terrible

XFC had a pretty nice fight scenes in it. The scenes in it at least had a good amount of teamwork and looked like a comic book come to life.

Nightcrawler attack on POTUS has to be the best fight scene in the whole X series

because they weren't directed by matthew vaughn

Well to be honest the blood in Ninja Assassin was like that to pay homage to traditional Japanese sword movies. They have bright gobs of congealed blood flying and spritzing everywhere. The actual fights scenes where they looked like they were actually supernatural fast is what I am referring to.

Speed of the action can be made entirely from the director and film crew. Look at Matrix, even the non-traditional martial arts moves looked supernatural and fast paced. Blade movies were a perfect example of how it should look. I want the character to move like he's done it before. If the current actors cannot spend the time fake it like Keanu Reeves did then at least throw a stuntman in there and cgi the face of the real actor on him. Ray Park is a good actor that can do fight scenes like butter. I mean they cast him as Snake Eyes in GI Joe and we never even see his face.

Iron man had good fight scenes because iron man really doesn't fight per say. I mean he basically is a shooter first and a brawler as last resort.

Watchmen fight scene was good. Not great but passable. I at least thought they actually had some skills.

Haven't seen Kick-Ass :(

I think any movie can be made that shows a good fight scene. Comics are not the end all to imagination. Almost all superheroes that get up close and personal use a form of martial arts. Other then characters like the Hulk who just pound away like a brute all superheroes use fighting skills that are half acrobatics and half martial arts. I know of none that stand and trade blows like a boxer.

I know this is the Marvel section but the fight scenes in Batman Begins were a mess. Except for the first one which serves as an introduction of the chartacter.

They are also pretty messy in The Dark Knight. Nolan seems to have learned how to shoot action during Inception, so hopefully he Dark Night Rises won't be a mess.

I thought the Wolverine/Deathstrike fight was good, as was the Spider-Man/Doc Ock train fight . The Punisher vs. The Russian was a fun one, better than the one-on-one fights in PWZ in my opinion. Hulk vs. the army in Hulk is another good one.

The fights in Ninja Assassin would be cool if you were actually able to tell what's going on. It has nothing to do with the fights being supernaturally fast, but more to do with the lighting and most of the fights been done in close up. Also, the blood was done digitally because that is cheaper than having to clean up the set after each take, the excessive of it was probably done as a homage, but the CG blood looked terrible.

Maybe you'll find what you're looking for when the Captain America film comes out....that should have some good scrappin' it it!

I agree for as badly agility wise Uma Thurman was she did an amazing job on that movie. Kill Bill had some some really good fight scenes. Never saw Hit Girl.

Some comic book adaptions can avoid fighting (aka Smallville) and reallty turn out great product. I just think when you invest millions into a movie the fighting should be crisp and inventive.

Human Blonski vs The Hulk.

Best fight in a comic movie ever.......one of the greatest moments I think

Hit Girl is a character in the move "Kick Ass", Brawl

It's a good rental!
