Why Can't DC Get it right?

With Green Lantern getting made and Ryan Reynolds in the title role + Johns at the helm... yeah, Barry's a pretty safe bet.

But I can remember a time when they were lining Reynolds up for Flash... a long time in fact (and he's a better natural Wally than any GL... clearly so) due to its long time in development hell.

I'd consider Barry a mistake though if that was the direction they take... hell, I think its been a mistake that Barry's come back and taken over...

Reynold's would make an INCREDIBLE Wally West

I still hate the casting of him as Hale Jordan, Reynold's is NOT Hale Jordan

I cant see him as Hal either. Maybe they'll make Hal more interesting and charming, trying to make GL like the Ironman movies.
Yea and it will be a stupid decision. Like i said... Barry has the personality of a mop bucket. Wally actually has a personality, an entertaining one at that.

Maaaaan **** Geoff Johns and his Mary Sue Hal Jordan's and Barry Allen's.
I hear you!

They'd discussed it with him years before he played Deadpool... it was one of the few things that they were clinging to... I'm guessing they couldn't get a script they were happy with or get the project greenlit because its about all I could remember about it.

If I had to cast him as any GL then he's Kyle... but we all know that couldn't happen...

We'll just try to whitewash over years of character non-development to somehow give Hal a personality...

Out of all the DC characters, Flash is probably one of the more human, so I very much agree with Octoberist. It's easy to blandly overlook him as the guy that runs fast and dresses in spandex. But at the core Barry has just as much of the human element as the Marvel characters. He's absent minded and always late, hard not to relate to that in our multi-tasking society. He's not the life of the party like Tony Stark but more of a humble guy going about his business like Peter Parker. The origin comes from an accident playing with science like Bruce Banner. WW and Aquaman would be more difficult because they are god-like and fantasy-based, but no way is Flash too boring for a movie. The rogues, maybe some of them are too cheesy (Gorilla Grodd?), but some of Batmans are too.

I would of picked him for Guy, personally. Reynolds humour is pretty *****ey/snarky. I know he can play dramatic roles, but even then, his natural charisma and comic timing shines through. Two things Hal Jordan doesn't have.

But seeing as they picked him for Hal i'd be reeeeally surprised if it's a 100% comic accurate Hal Jordan we'll see on film. Reynolds will bring some much needed charisma to Mr Hal Boredom.

It'll be like the Tony Stark/RDJ thing. In the comics Stark is a bit of a stiff really, but RDJ brought some of that natural charisma through into the role. I think that is what they are going for with Hal/Reynolds.

Yea but Barry doesn't have the charisma of Peter Parker. Barry Allen is boring as hell.

And Gorilla Grodd is ****ing awesome! He ain't cheesy, he's a right nasty piece of work. It's just that he is a talking Gorilla :D

Which will only serve to make parts of the boards unbearable as people make more absurd comparisons between Hal and actual great characters such as John McClane and Han Solo.

Forcing me to lobotomise myself with a salad fork just to make the pain stop...

Ugh yea... i couldn't believe Proticida compared Hal Jordan to John McClane... seriously. John McClane would kill him for that if he found out about it.

Never, EVER put the word "just" before the words "talking gorilla".

In fact I'll extend that to chimps, gibbons, baboons, orangutans and the like.

haha sorry man, my mistake. :D

But i meant it as people might think he is ridiculous because he is a talking Gorilla.

My favourite comic Gorilla is Monsieur Mallah though :awesome:

You both are either "touched' or in denial. Bat3 is destine to disappoint based solely on the DK success, and the curse of the "turd one".

I'll give Nolan the benifit of the doubt on Superman but I already don't like de-powering him. Also Nolan is probably out after Supes.
A shameful waste is what I've seen, and the tunnel vision of one person. Joel Schumacher.

Finally you both fail for not answering the thread rather then getting defensive. You have no original opinions? WB hasn't, but Hollywood has always been a copied success.

I'm saying I could do better and make a profit. Most comic readers could. That's the real point.

And Sawyer,

it's not that there is anything wrong with The Losers or J Hex as subject matter. It's not doing them right. Granted, I'm basing Hex's failure on advanced reports. Still time for a fix "IF" they listen (I heard it is bad though, Wild West bad). After all these properties are already fan tested. Just do them right.

Goodness don't be so optimistic just yet... :oldrazz:

The Flash news just slaps me with the fact that Ryan Reynolds never should have been cast as GL. He makes a great Flash (and I always thought that Nathan Fillion would be a good Hal Jordan).

It was a separate project which stalled and never eventuated. Nothing happened with it for a LOOOOONG time.

Reynolds as Rayner could bring some spark and interest into the character and get DC/WB considering future films... say The Flash, which along with Deadpool are probably the two characters he should be at the top of casting lists for.

I think what DC by casting Reynolds as Hal is pretty clever though. Like i said before, it's like the Tony Stark/RDJ thing.

I will be reeeeeeeeeeeally surprised if the Hal Jordan we see in the GL film is a 100% accurate comic book Hal Jordan. He'll be a bit more charismatic and likable.

But like you said Hound that will be annoying because people will start saying Hal Jordan is cool and charismatic because of how Reynolds played him.

Great... I've depressed myself.

Now I have to go look back at that Allstar Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder double page splash just to cheer myself up again...

Ah... there we go.

I agree 100%.

Been away from the GL boards for a while, but after reading this last page it seems bashing the choice of Reynolds for Hal before even a second of footage has been released is the 'in' thing to do.

What happened? I can remember such optimism when he was cast.................

I've been against Reynolds as Hale since day numero uno, been screaming it since he was casted. He just is not Hale Jordan in my eyes

No one is actually bashing the choice of Reynolds as Hal Bri. I think it's mainly just Hal Boredom bashing up in here. We are just saying that Hal Jordan is a boring, uncharismatic git. Whereas Ryan Reynolds oozes charisma.

Reynolds is definitely not the perfect choice for a 100% comic book accurate Hal Jordan. This is fact. Buuuuuut... that's why i think DC picked him for the role. Because like RDJ did with Tony Stark, Reynolds will bring that x factor and likability to the character.

See Hal Jordan is an uncharismatic, less likable version of Maverick from Top Gun. My theory to why he is pretty popular is simply because he is part of the awesome GL mythos and has awesome powers.

But if you took all that away, and gave him some generic power like super strength... he'd be nothing. Because he has the personality of a mop bucket.

If think DC picked Reynolds because not only is he a great up and coming actor, but because he has personality by the bucket full.

I think Hal has personality not as much as Guy or Kyle but he isnt some stiff. Or least he hasnt been since his return

Just make sure you don't read the speech balloons, or you'll get depressed again. ;)

If you want to fanrage about something you could start by getting the name of the character correct. :awesome:
