Absolutely true, but when it applies to me then we can call bullcrap.
In terms of flagship heroes, no doubt Marvel is further ahead. In terms of comic book properties in general, they really are pretty even. I will reference this post that clearly outlines where each studio is at. Results speak for themselves.
Box office is not an indication of word of mouth. It's opening weekend vs. successive weeks. AKA week-by-week dropoffs. Of the Spidey films, SM3 had the steepest drops. It's WOM was nowhere near as good as the first two.
It's a factor, and it's even less of a factor when applied to franchises and sequels. I don't know why people keep ignoring the fact that sequels leech off the success/failures of their predecessors. There are literally dozens of examples showcasing this.
SM3 is in the top 10 for biggest 2nd weekend and top 15 for 3rd weekends. WOM was nowhere near as bad as you are saying.
And why are you making this a Marvel vs. DC thing? Noone is saying Marvel is perfect, just saying that DC/WB needs to get it together before it's to late. By sitting on the goldmines like Flash, GA, WW(yuck), and JLA, they are missing a golden opportunity. By making movies like the Losers and some of the Vertigo line, is not making a lot of sense. It's great exposure but it's like bringing a pistol to a war. Sure it comes in handy but if you want to do some damage, you bring out the oozie and make some noise.

Both Marvel and DC made some f-ed up movies and again, the quantity over quality thing is just an excuse. Again, this WOM thing you keep speaking of is among fanboys because every non-fan I know liked SM3, it's only comic fans that bash it to oblivion. If you don't like what I'm saying, then ignore my post but if you look over the past two pages, my theme has been the same.
